I still dont get it is there a video link or something
Re: Avenue q help!!! Posted by MRHIP on Apr 17, 2008
I sent you a message with links to some sites. There are YouTube videos you can find by going there and searching for puppet building or puppet making. puppetbuilding.com is a site that has a lot of links to patterns, videos, tutorials on various aspects of puppet building. I found all these either by doing google searches or just by finding links on this forum or on other sites.
There's a lot of info on the web there for the searching.

Given your lack of experience you may possibly be biting off more than you can chew with this first project. It is not uncommon here to see new members who are very excited about getting into puppet building and performance, but who eventually give it up when it is not as simple as they thought it might be.
I would never dream of discouraging anyone from getting into puppetry - far from it. I've spent countless hours in the past on this site encouraging people and providing whatever help I could. Please just be willing to take this slowly at first, OK? As I mentioned to you before it might be smart to get your feet wet on simpler projects, and work your way up.
Good luck!

Hey Rootrage2:
Don't worry, we're all still here and willing to help as much as we can. Already you have at least four people giving you advice who either make their livings doing this or have been doing it and similar activities for a long time because they want to.
I sent you the links because they might give you a quicker introduction to the path you've set yourself upon. Go check them out if you haven't, especially the Paul Loomis videos on expertvillage.com and the uuppet making tutorial video from Brazil on YouTube.
Make no mistake though, the second one makes what you want to do look very simple and less time consuming as well. They have some specialized equipment, the hot wire foam disc cutter is very cool, that isn't necessary. I don't even have one of those myself, but will make one in the future when I have a dedicated shop space.
Plan on spending as much time as possible on a project to get the best results. Consider doing a project like the Paul Loomis video first. It's much simpler which means you will get better results with the process as your first project.
Also, try and find the books I've recommended. They are packed full of information. Together all three of them sell for around $60. Consider saving for them and buying them an investment. Same with tools.
The same goes for websites. Do Google searches for any combination of the words puppet and building, making, construction etc. There is more info out there than you can make use of on any one project.
Don't despair, and when you need to know something just ask.
Take care,
Marty

It sounds to me like you have some experience in visualizng what you want your project to look like. And you have some experience sculpting. these will be very helpful to you. Just take your time. Ask your questions. Do your research and if your patient with the process and careful as you learn you'll come out with some thing you will be reasonably happy with. And without a doubt you'll be more aware of the flaws than anyone else.
I'm working on my fifth puppet now. I'm very happy with all of them. And each one gets a little better than the one before.
