Hey Teddy,
Welcome to Puppets and Stuff.  We're glad your here.  I have visited Cebu twice for mission work and hope to return again soon.
If you are hosting a beginner class....start with the basics.  How to enter and exit the stage properly, mouth movement, height, believable movement (yawning, breathing, tilting of the head etc.) Basic supplies needed; stage, puppets, props etc.
The easiest way to start is to have your puppets/puppeteers sing to a recorded song using props in the background.  Live spoken puppetry is easier for beginners as long as you have scripts and they are comfortable with performing.
When it comes to props, think descriptive.  Don't just have an sign that says "GOD's Power", use something to represent his power such as a picture of dynomite, volcano or  his quite power of grace, you could use a tear drop.  etc.
There is so much to cover.  It will really depend how long your class will be.  Please feel free to contact and we can talk more.

Hi. I met my husband on a youth missions trip to the Philippines 33 years ago! We were from different parts of the US. We spent a week in Cebu and 10 days in Manila/Makati.

I recommend using a puppet training tape/cd. One Way Street has the best.
Another thing we have done is to teach the basic puppetry skills, then divide into teams. Provide the same music and props for each team, as well as puppets (they can choose which puppets and props and how to use them). Let them practice and then perform before the entire group. Every team will do the song differently! It really helps to use what you have been taught immediately, plus you can critique them.
