This could change the way we design puppets Posted by Onath on May 22, 2008
There is a new game coming out called Spore. The thing that really interests me in this game is not the actual game but the creature generator. You have the ability to completely design a creature in any shape or form and color.
Now for how this could impact us. This enables us all to have a quick and dirty 3d puppet creator. This could make all of our lives easier without having to redraw images we could use this game to completely resculpt the creature with a quick mouse click. I was doing a little searching around and I have seen a demo where they created a Carebear and stuff that looks like it is from the alien movie. So I'm sure with a little creativity this game could be a huge asset to all of us puppet builders.
TO see a little bit of the program in action check this link.

That looks like fun. I would rather just make the creatures with access to all the parts instead of playing and earning parts. I don't have much time for games.
Overall it is a great concept for the non-drawers in the group.
Thanks for sharing.....

VERY INTERESTING!!! Thanks for sharing this with us. This would be a helpful tool to help in the design process. I thought it was funny in the beginning of the video when the blob was very phallic in shape...hehe.

What would be a Revolution on this product would be a program that can actually diagram a flat pattern for your creation. Then it would be a puppet making generator and you could make whatever you can create on Spores.
Great find Onath and thank you for the link Mr Bill.

Ok so check out this. Not quite as easy to get something symmetrical. But it does create a 2d pattern from what you create.

Spore FINALLY came out in stores yesterday. I downloaded a trial version of it from spore.com. I had a lot of fun playing with the trial version and creating my own creature. I can TOTALLY see the applications of this game into what we do. It is easy for someone who is not comfortable with the computer. I also like that it is MAC compatible. It is very easy to create with drag and click. The game mode will allow for more building options and you can even design homes and vehicles. The real version allows you to also play online to meet other creations. I was wondering if anyone bought the real version as I am thinking that I might get it. I would like to play around with more options.
