Contact Cement Posted by LT Puppets on May 26, 2008
Does anybody have any suggestions on which contact cement is the best to use?? And  one with less fumes would be good because I only have a small room to make my puppets in.           Thank You Very Much

I like the water bases contact cement.  Once you get used to it it works as well as typical contact cement and it has way less odor.  I get mine from Home Depot and it comes in a green can.

The trick to using this cement is that when joining foam you need to dry the glue till it gets tacky then press the joints together.  This is just like the instructions on the can.

I found that when gluing fabric its was best to litely apply the glue to both surfaces and immediately press the surfaces together, being careful to not press so hard that the squeeze the glue through the fabric.  Then I take a hair dryer to the fabric and dry the glue.  This produced a consistent strong bond.

I second Jon on what he says.  Used it forever and very happy with that product but it seems that some places in the US does not carry it or it can be very hard to find.  Well worth the search to get it!

However each to his own........

Who puts this out?  Is it DAP Weldwood?

DAP produces waterbase or nonflamable contact cement.  So do some other companies.  the standard seems to be that waterbase contact cement generally has a green label.  I get mine at home depot.  the stock it with the other kinds of contact cement.

In Canada it is LePage "green" contact cement.  It also has a green label.  Found in the contact cement section as well.
