Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows any puppetgroups and shows in the Miami area? Will be visiting there soon and would like to meet some groups or even see a puppet show. Can anyone help me?

Darn... Sorry, Shereen. I used to live up the coast from Miami, in Boca Raton Florida, but I can't think of any puppetry-related places for you to visit in Miami itself. The person to ask would be Dave Goboff. He's the president of the Puppet Guild of South Florida, (or at least he was very recently), and he has been instrumental in reviving interest in the area and bulding up an active puppetry guild.

Dave's email address can be found at the two links above. You ought to contact him directly for the latest scoop, and/or consider subscribing to the Yahoo Group and downloading the newsletters, even though you don't live in Florida. I subscribe to the Yahoo Group and I haven't lived there in years. Dave is good people, and the rest of the guild is great too.

I hope that things are going a little better for you now, and that you find something interesting in Miami.

Thanks for your reply. I did come across PGFS. But not much on any activities from groups. I will do more research and look for Mr. Goboff.
Decided to take a vacation with family, we need it. I have the nurses taking care of my mom and my aunt is coming down to stay with her. She used to be a nurse, so that will keep my mind at ease. (will try).
I hope to start back again after the vacation. But was hoping to catch a group in action in Miami. But, you never know

It's great that you're getting some help with caring for your mom, Shereen. As much as you love and care about her the time off should do you some good.

Go ahead and email Dave Goboff at the Yahoo email address listed on those two pages that I linked. He really is a friendly, helpful guy who is extremely familiar with the puppetry scene in south Florida. We have a couple of other members here at P&S who are also PGSF members, but I haven't seen too much of them here just lately - though you never know when they might pop in.

Oh man... I'm sorry Shereen, I had no idea. He's used that one for years, but just recently I haven't been able to keep up with the group, so it might have changed when I wasn't monitoring the email list. Maybe you should check the spelling you used though, just in case.

OK... His old Yahoo email account was active as recently as a few weeks ago, (May 9th, 2008), according to the PGSF Yahoo Group posts, and he didn't send a notification of a change of address to the group since then.
