Face Painting Posted by Nikole H. on May 31, 2008
I am so excited that face painting magazine is back to publishing again.  I used to subscribe religiously to the face painting magazine and have been wanting to attend their annual convention in Florida.  However, the magazine suddenly disappeared!  Today, I found it in my "Funny Paper" publication which is a children's entertainment magazine.  I immediately signed up for a subscription to face and body painting magazine.  Their website is interesting in the fact that they have a free member directory online.  I now have a profile in case someone is looking for a face painter in my area and happens upon this website directory first.  I have a few of my pictures that I did for Halloween on my profile page.

Here is the link to face and body painting site to get your subscription:

I can also vouch for the excellence of the Funny Paper magazine! If any of you are children's performers you should subscribe!

I have also been toying with idea of becoming a clown and I stumbled across this forum which has mentioned puppets and stuff a few times, too.  Just to clarify, if I do decide to do clowning, I definitely will not be a white face clown.  I have been researching the subject and I like the idea of August Lite clown....i THINK that is the name of it.

Anyways, here is the link if anyone else is interested:

I know that this would be a very big decision and I wish that there was a clown school where I live.  I don't want to diminish the art.  I really like the kind of clowning that is artistic and not just twisting of balloons for children's parties although I know that brings in the bucks.  It is something I think has to be done to gain experience and build upon just like puppetry.  I'm only NOW starting to do more artistic and political puppetry than just a child's show.  However, I will never stop entertaining children!!!

Well, I HOPE I'm entertaining....ha ha ha.

Aloha,
Nikole

There is also an Excellant Book called "Transforamtions: the story behind the painted faces" by Christopher D'agostino, that is worth the price for the photos alone. Not some much a how to but stories of where his designs come from (nature, cultural masks etc) Usefull if you are painting childrens faces. 144pages and 570 photographs.  This was published thru the Kryloan make up company so it might take a google search to find it. none the less a good read

The last name is different but I think this is the same book.

What a FABULOUS performance.  I LOVE the idea of taking face painting to a performance level with storytelling....HOW GENIUS!!!  I will definitely have to get his book.  I love the stories behind the mask.  It was so clever.  This would be a great addition to any face painter's technique to give a little story with the action of painting rather than just talking with the child.  I will have to try this on my son....telling him a story about the mask I am painting on his face.

Thanks for the tips!
