It looks like an egg shape with a little less of a point on top of the head (where the hair goes).  Keep it simple and straight forward you have a pretty good description of the shape of the head to start doing sketches and figure out how that will look in foam.

Are you planning to use foam or do you have another idea?

Hope this gets the juices flowing.

Personaly I lked the Zelda figure you first had up. I believe you can build a puppet very close to those proportions fairly easy. All you need is a solid patter for the humon style head. Start by drawing the head shape itself front 3/4 and side with no features to get in the way. You will add those on later. That will be your basice head shape. Then do this as a test go to wal-mart or any one of those stores and buy a cheap dollar vinal ball and cut a slice up one half vrticaly. Now sart making other smaller cutes about a 1/4 the length always virticle until the ball lays flat. this is now a pattern for a ball head character. the reason you do this is to understand how a patter works to make a simular shape in foam. Now you modify the pattern making it smaller toward the bottom and experiment until you get a shape you like.

That is a great explanation Jay.  I was trying to figure out how to explain such a pattern in writing.  You explained it well and keeping it cheap......material's that is.

Thanks

mbarrow  where do you live in a rural area or a bigger city? Most upholstery supply houses have sheet foam like I am speaking of for a bout 10 bucks for a full sheet. Enough to make several heads and bodies.
