You Puppet has character................... You will improve as time goes on. As for this one being your first try I think you are on the road to sucess. Now what are your plans next. are you going to spray paint him/or her...or cover wth farbric/or fleece. Did you make pattern pieces.... or is it carved from a block of foam

Your head looks great. You definitely have some talent. The eyes, however, are looking up in the air and a bit walleyed.
Focus for a puppets eyes is mostly about the placement of the pupils. What you need to try is holding the head so that it is looking straight at a mirror and then place the pupils so that they look straight at itself. I heard a recorded interview of Jim Henson where he said that the muppets try to make their puppets slightly crosseyed because this gives the appearance of greater focus.

You normally end up with at least a seam down the center of the face but that is often hidden by the addition of a nose. If you use a fabric that has a nape to it like fleece or fur then that seem is barely visible.

That really looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product!

The pattern you used for the head is very versitile. If you simply change the shape of the mouth it gives a different look to the puppet.
If your wanting to cover your puppet with fabric try looking at http://swazzle.com/blogs/2006/03/puppet-building-tutorial-ratchet.html. Sean describes the fabrication process quite well in this tutorial. http://www.projectpuppet.com/blog/2007/04/adding-facial-features-to-your-puppet-characters-tutorial.html also has a section that describes how to cover puppets. I found both of these sites helpful when I was starting off learning to fabricate.
