Im a newbie! please help me! Posted by jeremiah_tnl2003 on Jun 17, 2008
Good day everyone!!

Well my name is Jeremiah im from the Philippines.. I am a Kid's Church teacher and know some basic stuff from puppets.. I usually make puppets out of used sock or kinda "can be"  things to make a puppet.. I can say that i have a good puppet manipulation (since they told me i am the best one because im the only person who can do it smoothly), and im also training them for puppet making and how to manipulate it... I am planning to form a puppet group in our Church here so that some youth, kids, singels, etc may be involved... My goal is to reach out others using puppetry..

So here is my dilema: To summarize it all, I dont have any patterns or a great ideas on how to make puppets.. It would be really appreciated if someone could give some patterns and tips or some lists needed how to make a big one (because in our kid's church were ranginag around 40 the less 60 the most every sunday 5 times, and were adding another service so that is 6 times in a sunday) so that all kids would really see the puppet show...

Your help would be such a blessing to our church and also for the kids...

So anyway if any help you could contribute kindly email me here at:

Thank you very much!

Hello Jeremiah, welcome to the group.

If you look around this site you can find a lot of good puppet building resources, including links for free patterns and how to use them

:)Jeremiah, welcome to P&S.  There are several different free patterns that are available on the internet and many of them have links here in the forum.  I have a few of them linked on my blog page, http://bashfulpuppet.blogspot.com/.  The links are in a side bar on the right side of the page.

Good luck.

Did you actually want to learn how to make puppets out of discarded materials? I love trash puppets myself and have made several sockpuppets already. An idea I've used before with sockpuppets is to take a pair of socks with for instance a stripey pattern. Then you take the top half of one sock and use it for a sweater while using the other's top half to make two sleeves out of.

I've made one for my 3 year old niece to play with when she's here. She so crazy about it she even leaves my cats alone Whenever she's here she just grabs it right away and all you hear all day is her having entire conversations with the puppet.

So all you need is one sock and a matching pair of socks, including some material to use as eyes and maybe a tongue and hair. But that's it. You can also make two armods out of an old coathanger. This way you have very cheap but still functional puppets. So kids could make their own and you could teach them how to puppeteer with them.

Hope this helps you out a bit

I have an extra set of the One Way Street people puppet pattern. Please contact me if you are interested. I'm new here too and feeling kind of intimidated by all this, but puppetters are very encouraging people. Leggettblm@aol.com
