Want a not too expensive puppet? I'm here! Posted by Darkranth on Jun 19, 2008
Hey there! I'm new to puppet building but I think I'm getting pretty well. I'm currently working on 4 pupppets: 3 avenue q puppets replicas (Nicky, Trekkie and Kate Monter) and my first own design puppet; Sunshine! I'm pretty proud of this one.
So if someone is interesed by my services, you can contact me and I will be glad to make you the coolest puppet I can!
If you want to, I already have camel fur, so if you need a little monster you won't need to pay a whole piece of fur.
You can check some photos of my work to get an idea.

By the way thanks for everybody who helped me and still help me!

Wow Darkranth,
I am really impressed with your work!!! Unfortunately, i dont have any money for now (trying to sell my house and finding a new one is not a piece of cake). But i am definitively keeping my eyes open in case i get one too many orders in the future that i can send to you (i still need to perfect my own puppet making techniques) and i am keeping my eyes on you as well because my gut feeling tells me that you will make it big and very soon!
You really impress my my friend!
Puppet hug,
SHould

You are doing very well for someone so young. I foresee you becoming a fantastic puppet maker one of the best. Stick with it it can be very rewarding. I would like to challenge you if I may. Design a puppet of your very own with everything you have learned. Create something original. I think you find that more satisfying than building replicas.
Again very nice work!!!

Congratulations on a job well done. It can only get better from here on. I like the fact that you took on a challenge and didn't let anything stop you. Can't wait to see them all when finished. Thank you for sharing the pictures.

You are doing a Great job on your puppets! I agree with DrPuppet that the next phase of your journey in puppet land is to build an original creation, and I see that is your plan for your next puppet. One thing I would like to say about you taking on the challenge to build the replicas of the Avenue Q puppets is that although you would not want to sell them they have taught you how to look at someone else's vision and recreate it. I think this can be very valuable in the puppet building world as you well most likely get commission work where the client well want you to take an existing character (which they hold the copyright on) that they use in print and create it for them.
Job well done!

Hi Darkranth,
Are you carving your heads out of solid blocks of polyfoam, rather than building them up from sheet foam?
Whatever you're doing, it's working well - nice job. I have to repeat what everyone else has said... You are showing a lot of talent and initiative for someone your age. You might even have a future in professional puppet building, if that's what you want.
Keep up the great work. I know that there are other puppetry fans in Quebec, who work in a variety of styles. Keep building your portfolio, especially designs of your own invention, and show them around to some of these other puppet builders and puppetry troupes. A Quebecois artist friend of mine has built a few puppets for live productions and TV work. You might get similar opportunities.

Thanks everybody! It's cool to have all these good comments! I don't want to have a career in puppetry but I want to make movies, so I hope I could make Avenue Q someday! By the way, do you know where I could find a good hair-like fur for Nicky? I tried at Mendel's but their 3" is only 2"
Well thanks again!
Well thanks again!

In fact, I realised that the problem wasn't because the fur was only 2". It's just not dense enough. Maybe I'll get the punky fur... Or the craft fur from clothdollsupply... I'm not sure.
I'm also thinking about remake all the fleece work on nicky, because I messed some things and because I didn't really took care of him it's getting dirty and crappy. What do you think.
You are all telling that I could do this as a Job. This is not my goal, but it could be intersting to do that as a part job when I'll be to University!
