Newbie's werewolf puppet performance and arm rod question Posted by spookydaddy on Jul 04, 2008
This is Cousin Loomis. He was still pinned together and kinda rigged to look better than he is.
I made him a few months ago and used a rough version of him as part of my application to a huge craft fair. I normally just make monster plush and he was my first full puppet. I had to focus on making stuff for the fair and had to end up taking the still rough version to the fair and even was there safety pinning his arms on inside his sweater. But he went over super well. I had crowds of people gathered around my booth and we got our pictures taken a whole lot and filmed by several people. one of them interviewed me for a documentary he is making as he travels across the country in a golf cart interviewing people about the art they make.
I think i did pretty well considering I had never puppeteered in from of anyone before and hadn't even practiced with him at all since i made him.

i shot that all myself which is why the footage isn't so great. it's not the easiest to film with one hand and puppet with the other.
I have a bit more footage from the fair but it didn't record as well. I did manage to borrow a tripod at the end and now know i just need little tripod to carry with me. I'll try to get that footage up later.
But I got more comfortable with him and My girlfriend shot this the next day on the way home.
and then i shot these in the car
Right now he is in a state of chaos cause i am redoing things on him like adding an actual thumb grip and i am having to totally redo his inner hands. i want to make a removable rod since i carried him around at the craft fair a lot. I have searched around on here and other places trying to find a good method. And we have settled on trying to carve into a small piece of balsawood that will serve as the palm. And then insert a small length of aquarim tubing so that the slightly bent rod can slid up inside. then contact cementing it in as well as contact cementing a flat piece of balsa wood down on top. Then drilling 4 holes and inserting and contact cementing in 4 pieces of heavy gauge wire for fingers and then using foam around that with the fleece glove on over that. I have tried to come up with an easier way but his hands are too big and will be too heavy for rods bent to a bracelet at top and i want more control that using rods with straps on them.
is there any other idea anyone could suggest???
And please let me know what you masters think of this newbie's poor first puppet and first footage.
THANKS!!!

Very cool! I like the fact that he is unique and not like every other puppet.
BTW: You can actually embed YouTube videos into a post. You simply place the ID of video between bbcode tags that look like this: [youtube][/youtube]
UPDATE: I just added the bbCode button for YouTube to the post screen right next to the Ebay button.
