How to keep hand puppets dry from hand perspiration? Posted by nancy7711 on Jul 11, 2008
Hello, I'm new to puppeting. Originally from Las Vegas but now living in Ireland!  We just started practicing with 65cm hand puppets and have found the sweat on our hands will have dire consequences down the line for our puppets. We tried surgeons gloves but that was worse.  Any suggestions? Much appreciated.  Nancy

Nancy,

What type of medium/material are your puppet heads made out of?

Oh boy Shawn, you have me there...  I would say sponge and a soft cuddly fabric.... sorry I can't be more helpful than that.

Do you have a picture of them?  It sounds like they are PolyFoam puppets much like the "Muppets".

What a coincidence... I wrote about this recently on my blog:

i read somewhere on ther internet (where i am not sure) about people just taking a sock and cutting it so there is a hole for your thumb and a hole for you other 4 fingers. so it covers your palm.
that will soak up a good bit of sweat. maybe not as good as lining the inside with cloth to absorb sweat but it might help in a pinch.

I just wear gloves when performing with puppets and let the gloves take in the sweat, I also perform with Under Armour, it helps keep my whole body cool during performances and you don't come out as sweaty as you would with regular clothing!
