need help Posted by OnceUponADaisy on Jul 15, 2008
  Hello everyone,

I need help... Where do I begin puppeteering?  How do I start.  I do own a few fabulous puppets.  What are the must have or do for starting a puppet show?  I do take my puppets around in public but I want to take it to the next step.  Do I need any permission or permits to do puppetry in public?  Looking forward to your reply.  Thanks.....

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff... Joining this forum is a good start. There are many here who build and perform around the world. You need to set some goals for yourself whether it be to learn and build , make a stage, then perform, etc. I'm sure that everything will work out for you.
Search thru the forum there is tons of information on this subject.

This depends on where in public you are preforming and local laws. If someone hires you to do a puppet show then, No you do not normally need any permits. I you are in a public park or on public land then you might need some type of busking or performance permit. Where do you live?

Shawn brought up some good points around the laws, you will need to speak to other busker's that perform in the area to find out what they need to do to be allowed to perform on the streets.   Just a little personal safety tip.....I would suggest having another person to be with you (outside of the stage) when you are performing so no one comes along and hits your stage or become inappropriate while you perform.  People do weird things to performers when they are "hiding" in a performance.

Billy has also gave you suggestions on things you will need to gather before you can start performing.  If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask away.

Thank you.

Good point.  I will do more research before venturing out.
