The reason I believe he is still alive is due to the fact that Gary Friedman (the youtube interview posted) just released that video and he doesn't mention that he is dead, he would be in the know since he is very connected to this community.  I know for sure that we are all part of many blogs and forums that such information would be announced of his passing since he is such a great influence in the puppetry world, worldwide.

....however I could be wrong.

Just my thoughts......

Why not post to the you tube video.... I did !
Good idea newmodler if you have the time to research this project I'm sure a lot of people would be greatful. I'm not sure if enough people are interested for the publishing company to print a new addition and the reqiurement limit of books required to make it profitable.

Maybe if he went to a smaller publisher for a limited run.  I know in the magic community this is done all the time.  Eg. Juan Tamarriz from Spain has two excellent works that have been out of print for a long time and he is in the process of releasing a compiled version of both volumes in English.  Maybe a set of videos by Fettig would work better?  This would unblock any potential copyright problems with the former publishers.

Also, there is a note on the screen breifly that indicates the video is from 1991.  The lack of bio info on Fettig and the intervening 17 years is why I was wondering if he is still with us.

More to the point, since publishing Print On Demand has become available - which means he could print as many books as he wants and not lose out. On the other hand, publishing houses must print a certain number, and that's why they'd be reluctant at printing this particular book.

Hadn't thought of that.  All we need to do now is find him and see if he is willing to do this.

I e-mailed the rights department at Hachette last night to see, the guy I started with is overseas but returns today.  As soon as I get a reply then I will let you know what I find out.

Ron, you don't happen to know who the original German publishers were do you?

I don't know about the publisher, but here is the ISBN :      978-3-922220-82-4 which I found on this page: http://www.buchhandel.de/detailansicht.aspx?isbn=978-3-922220-82-4.  Maybe someone who speaks German can figure out the publisher from the page.

Thanks Marty, The publisher is listed as W. Nold.  (Verlag is German for  publishing house) I will try and get hold of them and see what I can find out.  My husbands German is ok so we should between us be able to get some information.  As soon as I have any information I will let you know.

http://www.puppenundmasken.de/

They are a publisher of puppetry theatre books in germany.  There is no listing for Fettig on the page but there is an e-mail address.

Hey folks Marty asked me to look in to the matter and I think I found something. The french Interview was given in a french town called Charleville-Mézières. From a Belgian document I found online (http://www.hetfirmament.be/doc/haalbaarheidsonderzoek.pdf) I gathered that this is the haven of the only recognized marrionette acadamy in France.

I don't actually speak french but the wiki page on Charleville-Mézières (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleville-M%C3%A9zi%C3%A8res) indicates that there must be two museums aswell. If someone who speaks french can contact these museums or the Institut international de la marionette, then I'm almost sure we'd be able to find him. I even suspect he might simply be a teacher there.

Hope this helps
