Re: Where can I find H. Fettig "Glove and Rod Puppets" Posted by newmodeller on Jul 24, 2008
Dear Charlotte,
thank you for your message. Hansjürgen Fettig is still alive. He lives in a special house for old people.

I already visited all your websites as an artist.

Yes, I am able to arrange contact with Fettig. I am editor of his book "Hand- und Stabpuppen" which is still on stock. The English translation is out of stock and perhaps difficult to obtain.

It would be usefull to receive further informations from you. What is the reason to ask for the publishing rights of "Hand and Rod Puppets" ?

All the best !
Wilfried

The above is a reply I received today from Wilfred Nold, he is the current publisher of the German edition.  I am going to e-mail him back and will give him the link to this thread to explain the discussion.

Cheers,
Charlotte

What a lovely man, I have had an e-mail back from Wili Nold The German edition is still available from him for 40 euros.  Regarding the English edition it is unlikely to be reprinted, although I might try one other possible avenue, leave it with me and I will see what I can find out.

Wonderful work, Charlotte - thank you very much!

The German edition would certainly have value even to someone who didn't read German. Fettig's illustrations are very clear and informative.

Thanks again!

Ron G.

PS
I wonder if Mr. Fettig would enjoy receiving cards or letters from his fans, and if his publisher would forward them.

Thanks for the update and letting us know.

Maybe they will reconsider re-publishing the English, we can always keep hope alive.

Thanks Charlotte....keep at them about re-printing this book.

I have now found out a little more, both good and bad news.  Ray DaSilva and Rene Barker currently own the rights to the English translation but not to the illustrations.  Fettig himself was not keen on the book as a finished piece, hence the withdrawl of permission for more than the original print run.

If anyone has any ideas on how I could get some idea of sales potential Ray and Wili would be interested and might be able to find a solution.  I had wondered about posting a poll here and also on other puppet boards.  HELP!
Someone will need to tell me how to do this.

I always knew that career in book selling and publishing would come in useful one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great work Charlotte............ I think a poll would not hurt. I certainly would like a copy if reprinted and was at a reasonable price.

I think there would be a market for a compiled volume, i.e. all three of his books in one cover.   If it could be done as a print on demand publication then there should be little risk to a publisher.

I'd be up for a compiled volume, even though I already have the Glove and Rod puppet book.

Compiled volume for me also! Thank you Charlotte for your great work!!!

I went to the National Library of Finland and saw the book. It is great! I took one photocopy (page 44-45). I`am trying to make same kind of mechanism like "Professor Karpenko" have.

I have added a poll to this thread that folks can vote in, so we can determine the interest of people would be willing to buy the book.
