Have you checked at the hobby store for the clear two part shapes? They are like an plastic easter egg, in that they come apart but are split length wise instead of width wise. They come in round, egg and oval shapes in a variety of sizes. Pretty sure I have seen them that large 80mm = about 3 1/4 right?

you know I have not checked the hobby shops we don't have any around here really. I live in a very small town. However there is a hobby train store a couple of towns over. What are the shapes you are talking about usually used for? I amy be able to find them online.

Why not use a styro-foam egg............ they come in all sizes and you can cut them long ways.

A good idea Billy but it needs to be smooth like plastic so it would be a lot of work to coat the egg then sand and smooth it out

Could it be possible to dip the foam egg in Plasti-Dip to make it smooth?

or you could cover it with a air drying clay or sculpey.
Another option would be to use the dummy eggs used in hatcherys... I found this craft place that sell the goose egg halves. They are wooden but they are not heavy. I used to raise chickens and birds and they are real light.

Could paper Mache ovals (eggs) be a option? they could be easily cut, painted and you could put foam on the inside to make them more durable.

Just some ideas

The plastic "shapes" are used to make your own ornaments I think. They can be stuffed with stuff or decorated. They have a little tab/hanger on the top I often cut off.

fantastic ideas both of you. Billy the papermache idea is good if i can find a full round oval. I looked at Micheles hoping to get lucky but not so far. Plastidip won't work becaoude you can't smooth it or sand it. The clear plastic orniments I use a great deal. unfortunately they don't come in oval that I have found. But I may go to the Darice website who manufactures them and maybe I will get lucky.

I'm not sure how it opens up or if this is the right size.

That was the shape I was thinking of when I suggested this. If that "egg" shape works for you Dr. Puppet I can see if I can find some for you at the hobby shops here in KC and then send you some.
