making a pattern with a plastic bag Posted by gompie on Jul 27, 2008
I did a great found today...... I want to use a stuffed toy from my kids for a pattern for a puppet. But I couldn't take it apart for the pattern. After a while thinking I came up with this solution. I took a plastic bag we get in the shops here in Holland (a thicker plastic) I pinned the bag in the seems of the toy. I ensured that it remained straight, even tucks came to the right place. The pins had a few distance from each other. I made lines between the pins with a permanent marker, get the pins out and had a peace of the pattern.
I hope you will understand because my camera doesn't work now if somebody want to explain it again in proper english go ahead. ...........

I love that idea!  Thanks gompie!  I know I'll be using that idea in the future.  I've done reverse engineering in garment sewing before and struggled with seeing through the paper to locate and draw seam lines.  Your idea is so much easier and would ultimately be more accurate as well.

I made with this pattern a paper try out and it worked. I made a little joke with the kids because I sad I ruined their toy.and showed the paperbear but they saw the real bear behind me and said:" O mummy (mamma in dutch) you allready made brownie again ....................."
