Internship ideas wanted Posted by LJ on Jul 27, 2008
I thought that I would just send out a general inquiry as to anyone who may know of some good places for my son to ask about doing internships.  He needs to do an internship next summer and would like to find a children's theatre or theatre where he can work and get some good experience.  Some amount of pay would be nice too!! If puppetry is included at the theatre it would be an additional perk for him.  Any ideas out there?

There is Bob Bakers Puppet Theatre in LA.  I was on vacation there and made it a priority to drop by and see a show.  I was very impressed with the quality of the puppets and the performance.  The show itself was just over an hour, not one kid moved or took there eyes off the show.  I will show some pictures that I took soon.

Anyways this theater is the oldest running puppet theater in the USA.  They have shows daily and also perform at many major events.  That day they had 5 puppeteers performing as young as their early 20's right up to the forties.   Some have been there as long as 14 years right down to 3 years.  Bob seems to be very open to taking in young people and training them in using the puppets, they mainly use marionettes along with some black light theater.  Each show has different needs.

I'd look into One Way Street Puppets.  They have a traveling troupe of teens who do puppet shows across the US.

I will tell my son about Bob Bakers Puppet Theatre.  Great idea!
puppetlady - The One Way Street ministry team is not a paid  internship and he really wants to have more of a theatre experience.  We love OWS and have gained much from the experiences we have had there (see I-Fest thread!), but he wants more of a real world experience.
Keep the ideas coming!
