Good prices on foam Posted by gav on Aug 05, 2008
I know there was a post about the best prices on foam for puppets.  I looked and just can't seem to find it.  Or if someone has a good site link it would be apriciated  if you could post it.  I'm a newbie puppet maker so it doesn't have to be the top of the line foam.  I'm working with Joanns fabrics foam. I'm paying about 6.99 a yard right now.  So i'm looking for prices in that range for now.

Gav,
Joann Fabric usually has a 40% off (one item) coupon in the newspaper here in Tampa, FL. EVERY week.  Get it at it's maximum length that's one item.

In Canada
I Just paid at an upolstry place $25 for a 1/2 inch sheet 54"x72".I thought that was fair,or for those up here in Canada is there a cheaper way to go?
I love this site,I check in at least twice a day!I am addicted.

Brenda and others, if you buy from an upholstery place like I do don't forget to check if they have a discard bin you can buy from.  These are normally odd sized pieces they end up with and may have a small flaw in them. You can get good deals on smaller quantities this way.

I get my foam from the Foam Factory in Michigan. I live two miles from the factory and just run down when I need foam. Their website is www.foambymail.com I don't know what shipping would cost, but you can contact them directly to find out.

Sue

Just looked at their website again and they have free shipping on orders over $75. It might be worth buying the foam to have on hand.

The site looks good whats the name of the foam I would be looking for from them.  Oh also I may have a lead to a local foam guy who does 2 feet by 16 feet for 14 bucks.  That's less then half what i'm paying now at joanns.

Which types of foam have you used?  There seems to be some fun types that may be worth experimenting with!
Re: Good prices on foam Posted by gav on Aug 06, 2008
Only stuff i've used is the ugly stuff from joanns fabrics.  I would like to get some in white.  The stuff from joanns can be seen through the fleece.  I went to put a skin tone on one of my puppets and I could see the greenish blue color through it.  =_-(

Thanks for the hint.I will check with them.I bought some 1" foam from Fabricland for the pattern Helen sent me.The foam was green and I really didn't even like the feel of it,a course grain, and it was also very hard to work with.I like the foam work from the upolstery shop. It's white,a nice texture, and very easy to work with.
