Actually I'm less than a noob. "Getting interested" is more accurate.  I've been working on a small kinda-sorta-"My dinner With Andre" like screen play and it occurred to me that marionettes  might work.  I did a search for movies using puppets and came up with Peter Jackson's "Meet The Feebles" and "Strings" and ordered both.  The less said about Feebles the better.  But "Strings" was a revelation.

I have a high end  "amateur" HD video setup and a professional music synthesis studio and the Mrs. and I are doing an instructional video on quilting.  When that is complete next spring I'm hoping to turn my attention to this movie if it still seems feasible.

I've been poking around here picking up ideas, tips etc and appreciate the resources.

Sounds to me like you may have the basic skills and desire needed to build a puppet!   If you are doing a video on quilt building then I would say you have some knowledge of sewing. If not you then I would assume the Mrs. does so you can draw from her experience.

Oh, I absolutely adore Strings! I insisted I saw the movie when it came out at the cinemas, and it was so amazing... I recently had the opportunity to see Sofie Krog, one of the puppeteers from Strings, live. She was beyond words... fantastic.

Can't wait to see what you come up with - I love marionettes.

I've made only one small quilt under the Mrs. tutelage and I'm better at tinkering around in the shop than sewing so perhaps together we can come up with something
