Summer is GREAT!!! New Puppet for Customer Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Aug 10, 2008
Hello everyone, especially to all those who recently joined! I miss chatting with everyone as I only seem to get to the site every couple of months, other that lurking. LOL
I hope everyone's summer is going great!! Gotta love the hot weather here in Texas!!! Loved the cooler temp. in IL. during I-Fest even better though.
I've seen some really great stuff all of you have been making recently. Great job everyone.
I just wanted show you one of my lastest puppets. His name is Uncle Phil, at least that's what I'm calling him....I don't know how his new relatives will refer to him....something about a Grouchy Old Man. Anyway we won't tell him that. Here he is. Sorry, as usual I start out taking photos of the process and get distracted. Let me know what you think. I'm having trouble parting with him, but he's off the new home tomorrow.

WOW Julie!!! He is amazing!!! What technique did you use? What fabric for the skin? Where is his new home? (I didn't know you made that type of puppet too!!)

Thanks. I don't know what you'd call my technique, cut and paste. LOL His skin is just regular antipill fleece, highlighted with artist chalk. His lower jaw is one piece, below the eyes to the top lip, above the eyes to the back of the head where his hair starts, then the back of his head. Also, his jowls are separate. I wanted to cover them as part of the face and lower jaw, but could not fingure out how the have them attach to both jaws without restricting the mouth movement. Any ideas?
He will be going to Maryland today.
Frankly, I didn't know I could make something like that also. God is GREAT! I love the challenge, I'll try making most anything someone trusts me to make. I have awesome customers.
The eyes are spoons that I painted. I still need to work on that skill, because I think the eyes on any puppet really give it it's personality.

Great puppet, Julie. I think that your technique best matches with the Nip Tuck method. The wrinkles and sags can be very difficult to fabricate and you did a perfect job. I sure your client is very pleased. Thanks for posting.

Thanks again. Everyone. I don't remember who it was on this site, but they had made a comment once about just spending the money to buy some foam and fabric and just experimenting. I think that's some of the best advice. In the past I was to intimidated to just "waste" some foam and fabric trying to figure out different designs. So my advice is just that and go for it!!! Everyone here has been such a great help and inspiration.

thats how it was with my first few puppets. i knew what i wanted but didn't know how to get there. fortunately foam is very forgiving to work with. And once you get the foam right there's really no guess work with fleece. so i agree with you. just get in there and build and have fun.
sorry about the typing. i'm having to type one handed. my other hand had a run in with a circular saw and will be out of comission for a few weeks.
