Looking for 60mm craft balls.. Posted by gav on Aug 11, 2008
I spent the morning looking at peoples puppets.  I noticed almost everyone at one point are using the plastic craft ball eyes.  I only found the real big ones at Joanns.  Does anyone know a online retailer with the 60's.

Try puppet planet. If she doesn't sell them she has great links to sites for other supplies.

When you say craft ball eyes are you refering to the half dome plasic eyes that have post and are attached to your puppet using metal fastners.

If so these are available thru a company called Mercury Plastics but only sell wholesale with a very large minimum purchase. As said you can find them from some of our members below

Don't feel limited to the craft balls when you're making eyes

I've used ping pong balls for eyes in the puppets I've been making recenty.  There are also small sized nerf balls that you can get in toy departments.  They're a little bigger than ping pong balls.  I've also wandered over to fishing gear and looked at the bobbers.  They would require a little cleaning and paint to make them smooth and white but they are an option if you need something smaller.

Plastic spoons also work good for eyes.  I like the soup spoons best.

When it comes to eyes anything that works is ok.  You're only limited by your imagination.

I have both sizes of the half domes as well as some comic eyes.  I just haven't listed them on my site yet.  Feel free to email me.  The small half domes are aprox. 1 1/2" wide, lg. are 1 3/4" wide.

If you are looking for larger ones try door stops, 2 3/16".  You can get them at home depot or Lowes.  If you can find them email me and I can sell you some.  They are like the ones on my Rooster puppet. 614_22_05_07_3_53_22

Man I love this site.   Thanks everyone for the ideas.  It's true i've never tried ping pong balls.  I'll pick some of those up today.  The ones i'm talking about where the plastic clear balls made my Darice that come in diffenrent sizes.  they go for sixty cents to a dollar i think.  They're used for ornaments mostly.  There is just not allot of people out there that sell them. I iike the door stop eyes.  I'll look into that today.   MPGRACE can you link your site please? Oh and thanks Jon for your reply to my other thread.

Gav,
At the bottom of my post under the John 8:36 quote.  The top link is my site, the second is another company that sells a few of my puppets and the third is my etsy site where I list a few also.

Also, under my avatar you can click on the link to the site or email me.
