Good stitches .. Posted by gav on Aug 14, 2008
I notice when making my puppets that the stitches seem to stand out.  If it's one that will be covered up I care less.   But the ones on the front of the face seem to be a problem.  I look at others puppets and notice the face stitches almost seem invisible.  I'm new to sewing and have gone with what I was showed.  So my question is how are peoples puppets looking so seamless.

Ahhhh.... are you in luck!  Check out this thread: http://puppetsandstuff.com/community/index.php/topic,3501.0.html

Jay just posted a link to a video in it that shows how he hand stitches the fabric for the face.   You might want to start at the beginning of the thread and see all the infor and links posted as there is some great info in it.

What type fabric are you using? what type thread? and what stitch are you using? Different fabrics look better with different stitches. Some favor one over the other. Here are some of the stiches that may help you understand better

This is a good time to get in on Jays tutorials he just did one on sewing. Shawn beat me to it

Hope this helps. As Jay states in his tutorial sew only short stitches at the time, space them even and watch the tension.

WOW Dr. Puppet...I REALLY love your site!!!  Your prices are so wonderful, too, for a fully constructed puppet.  I might just have to order a few when I settle into Singapore.  I'm all about buying rather than making these days...ha ha ha.  Hope you can ship to Singapore!
