Doct who preview Doing arms for puppets Posted by DrPuppet on Aug 15, 2008
This is the next video on doing arms for puppets that Billy and Onath asked for. I hope it helps I really focused on the attachment process and not the style of arm itself.

I think after this one i will consolidate all the video s into one location so they are not so spread out. Also I had a question I have to edit a bit for the web and keep them short but would anyone be intrested at all in the full length one and maybe made on a DVD? I would have to charge something for it but I would be willing if there is a definite intrest.

Let me know...

I would be interested in the full version ( edited in Chapters ..Please) so email me with the details. You are such a clever fellow........... I would never had thought to use the metal screws, washers & bolts ( you could even use wing nuts ) allowing the arms to be removed and used on another project.

I like the reverse idea that you used with the doll joints.................. Since the arms are movable I make fabric covered round circular disc to the inside and outside to keep the two fabrics rubbing causing wear and tear. Very well done.

I hope you except paypal.

Ok now that we have your complete attention Jay and we are picking your brain so to speak.................... I have a question?
Most of your human puppets are flesh colored. What type dye do you use? and what is your Dye formula for the " flesh" color.

Oh my ! I see another DVd " how to process and dye Antron Fleece with Jay "

You da man! Curious minds want to know !

I use rit die mainly because its easier to find the other one (which the name escapes me it comes in a can and is powdered??) I can't rememeber the spelling. I use a little coco brown and a little rose pink only a small amount for cacasion puppets, the coco alone for african american puppets and then for tanner skin hyspanic i use less coco and more rosr pink.

Jay:

Great video again.  Wow, you are fast putting those out.
Question:  For the removeable arm with washer, nut and screw,  does the screw scrape your arm in the inside of the puppet?
Comment:  I like how you put the doll joints in backwards, clever idea, thanks for sharing it.

Count me in on the DVD! Your tutorials are awesome, I love the head covering technique. I'm really not that fond of the draping method, I use it because it was all I knew how to do.  I can't wait to try your methods, all of them.  PM me about the DVD if you decide to make one.

Thanks for being so kind hearted and sharing your secrets.

I also would love a full DVD with your great techniques.

I love your simple explanation and sharing your professional techniques.

I hope that you show a variety of areas of the puppet?

Some things I would like to see are any unique eye technique as well as doing the wiring for the hands to hold stuff.   How about working with wigs and different materials to make hair either than just wigs?

Jay thanks for letting us behind the curtain and sharing these great techniques.

Jay:

Do you make your own hand armitures?  The way you talked about it, it sounded as if you purchased them.  Can we have a tutorial - pretty please?  Yours are the best I've ever seen!

The armature wire is purchased i put them in myself. I have made my own in the past using a drill to spin my own wire. I could show that If you like.

I could show some hair examples. I use a lot of wigs because I am fond of the look. But I think I could come up with others to show.
