What happened to the puppet making videos Posted by DrPuppet on Aug 16, 2008
Guys I am moving the videos to a site all their own linked from the Drpuppet site and from 99acrewoods. I will have them up as soon as I can. I just finished the hand video and will have the picking the seems video done soon. As well as building the foam head and cutting the mouth plate. Basically the whole Tennant puppet from the beginning since we started in the middle.

Also I wondered i want to set these up as a pay download with larger file sizes. Here is my thought tell me what you think. 3 bucks or so to download the full video. Now I will also be making a video on building my rats from the ground up going over flocking and such. In that one the video will be 3 dollars and the pattern will be 5 does that sound fair to everyone? I want to make it as easy as possible please give me your thoughts. I thought these amounts would be accessable to everyone including churches and organizations with not a lot of money to invest.

Jay we could never be mad at you.....I think it was a very fair request....thanks for letting us know....panicky not mad is one thing puppet people have a tendency to do.

I think your prices are way to reasonable, look out there Jay, you are doing one of the best services with your video's and I think you are charging way to little for what people get in the end and all your efforts.  People will appreciate things more when they spend more and have to make a commitment to put that money forward.  Your knowledge and lifetime experience needs to be recognized don't undersell yourself, I believe that the knowledge that you share is first rate unlike the many that give you a pattern and guide you through making that pattern only.  I also love the little hints to make the puppets have a professional edge in the end.  Keep them up and charge more for downloads!

Just my thoughts......and I might be standing alone on my thoughts.....

It thought it might be tidier to lock the other two topics related to this and leave just this one open to reply.

Jay,

As much as I would like to see the video tutorials stay open and free, I think that offering them for a fee is reasonable. As Daryl has stated your thoughts on the amount to charge is pretty low.  The knowledge is worth much more.

I am a very strong supporter for free and open information so would like to see them stay free or for a very low fee that anyone would be comfortable paying. I don't believe that people well value them any less if they are free or lower priced. It has often been suggested that Puppets and Stuff membership be offered at a price yet I can not bring myself to do that. Does that make P&S less valuable or less appreciated?

I fully support you in what ever path you choose to take on this and well promote or help you in what ever way I can.  I do believe that if you produce a hard copy DVD that it should be offered for a price.

I had a bunch of stuff I was going to say but stiqman said it already. =D   Seriously the prices are beyond fair and look forward to getting the videos and the pattern when you're done.  My thoughts on the prices are start at what you where thinking.  Then as it gets to be more popular.  As it surely will then raise it a bit.  That way it gets out there and gets allot of good word of mouth from fellow puppet makers.  You do quality work and people will pay a good price for it.

Hi Jay,

Would it still be possible that you could offer all of these on a dvd for the same price (plus shipping and handling)? I somethimes have trouble connecting my laptop to my router and being able to access the info without having to be on the net all the time would be great. And i always like to have a backup of my files somewhere and having them on a dvd would be great. But if you only offer them for download, i guess i can cram up your videos somewhere on my computer. The problem is that my cd burner is out of commission and that is indeed a problem if i want it all on a dvd format.

I downloaded the other videos so that I could re-watch them at my leisure. I would be more than glad to pay for what I have already received, let alone for those you have been considering. Compared to what I paid for the Dave Pannebacker videos and the value of what I have learned from yours, I couldn't not pay for more!

I'm in Jay.................... sounds great to me. There is no right amount you can charge for knowledge. I'm just happy you are willing to do this.
