Thanks everyone. The walmart here is closing down its craft department. I bought the book from amazon before I found out you could get it for free.  Michaels sounds like the best shot, but it is a ways from here(This is not a craft friendly area. I should have mentioned this puppet is based on Project puppets cone head pattern.

Not to mention the display is so small I can't see it with my old eyes.

maybe you can borrow the eyes of your  puppets.............

How about this .......using wool roving or wool felt to form your cowboy hat. Traditional hat makers use buckram wool, and wooden blocks to form hats. I found this style below.

Confused Monkey:

Is it the Punto pattern (larger) or the Pinhead pattern (smaller)?
Re: making puppet hats Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Aug 22, 2008
The Ovale, Punto, and Rotondo are a larger size puppets from the forma series. The Monstro was the latest larger puppet pattern added.

The simple series puppets............ http://www.projectpuppet.com/-strse-The-Simple-Series/Categories.bok
glorified puppet, pinhead, and melonhead are smaller hand type puppets. You can enlarge them to make larger puppets.

So the answer to your question? smaller. hope you don't mind me answering your  question confused monkey...please add to what I have said.

Thanks Billy. It is the pinhead pattern I'm using for this one (although I did go on a wild shopping spree at project puppet, they are terrific patterns). Puppetlady, that website on making cowboy hats is exactly what I wanted. I've bookmarked it and will print it up ASAP.

Thank you, I really have to check out their store next time I am near there. He will be the first puppet I post. Downloading pictures is one of the things that keep me confused.

You might also want to try www.consumercrafts.com which has partnered up with Shrocks (for those who know their catalog of wonderful items). You can find great prices on craft items used for puppets & puppet making like doll joints, eyes, and wearable accessories such as hats. As with most online purchases, it's best to order several items at once because it looks like their minimum shipping rate is about $6.00 from my experience, but you can get quite a bit shipped for that rate too!

Pretty nifty search engine as well.

Also, here is a promo code to save 10% off all online orders until September 30th, 2008.  Promo Code: 1947
