Identification of a Puppet toy Posted by tommyfilth on Aug 24, 2008
I have been searching for info on this puppet for a while now. I remember them from my childhood. I think they were called Gremlins or Goblins and they weren't much bigger than your fist. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I used to own one and kept the eye mechanism and recently found it among my storage boxes.  I kept it for looking at how the eyes mechanism works since the eyes move side to side and you have a blinking ability that relies more on the latex to work.

What do you want to know?  You can buy them on Ebay from time to time, it is probably the best place to buy one.

Tommy,

They are called 'Boglins' (although my spelling might be off). There were a bunch of different designs made. The larger ones had the left/right eye mechs in em' and I think there were some smaller ones that just had finger cups behind the eyes that you could use to move em' around and bug them out with...

Funny story, as a young kid getting into creature fx, I had made a bunch of rubber hand puppet creatures... Yes, very similar to Boglins... My parents knew someone who knew someone who was a toy designer or something for Mattel (it was a long time ago). Well, they came over and looked at what I'd made and encouraged this young kid to keep at it and the only way it would be considered for a toyline is if there were a bunch of different characters. WELL, cut to about a year later and what hits the market? BOGLINS!!! Yep, even as a young kid, I couldn't help but wonder if my idea hadn't been stolen... Maybe it was just a coincidence and some other marketing person had the same idea, I don't know. It was the around the time that Gremlins, Critters and Ghoulies came out, so who knows!
