thanks so much! between all of this information i should be able to figure it out. i can't watch youtube at work, but i was watching some clips yesterday that were helpful - one that was just the inside-back of a ventriloquist dummy's head got me almost over the hump of comprehension. i'll have to figure it out tonight when i get home.

finally able to watch youtube, and hahaha - Billy D, the 2 videos you posted are the exact same 2 i watched on youtube already! they are both really helpful, if just for close examination of the mechanism.
