Awesome job Jon!!!! You must have sent this thru the Awesom-O-Matic!!
I agree with all the above, you did a great job of capturing the character from the clients sketch.
Which is sometime not as easy as it may seem.
AND all in 6 days...WOW....it takes me six days to decide wether I want to fire up the glue gun or not!?!?!

Keep up the great work!!

Wow Onath!  It's a great representation of the drawing!  Six days for a robot! Great turnaround!  I really like him.  What is he made out of?

Wow!!! That is a lot of feedback thanks guys.

Well I guess you guys like him. He is made from two small plastic trashbins from the dollar store. I cut the bottom out of one of the trash cans and cut a hole in the top slightly bigger than a CD. That piece became the body. For the head I cut the one side of the top of the trash bin so it could you could have your hand go up into it.

I made the mouth plate using plastic sign material and the glued felt on top of that for the black mouth. There is a neck tube that starts at the bottom and goes up all the way to the mouth plate.  The eyes were made from small hard plastic glasses from the dollar store.  I used a dremel for about 90% of the robot from cutting to sanding down rough edges. The arms are made of plastic flex tubing. I spray painted the body with a base coat and then a combination of silver and metallic blue spray paints and some gloss red for little sections.

The nose is made from a Ping pong ball with an LED inside it. The nose lights up RED when activated. The wiring goes around the inside of the head then down the back of the neck tube and then out the bottom the Battery pack is on the front of the puppet and worked itself into the design the switch is in the back bottom of the puppet and hangs down so it can be used by your other hand. I will try and find the link on how to wire up a LED it made it a lot simpler once I started using resistors.  Not sure what else to say about the robot other than that he is pretty light and moves very well.

I love all the feedback and it really great to hear that you guys like him. There are a lot of times when I doubt myself as a builder and feel guilty asking for money at all for something I love so much to do.  I highly encourage everyone here to try and build a puppet from a drawing it is difficult the first few times but it gets easier.  Have a friend draw it and then build see if you can do it.

Well ask any questions you might have I don't mind sharing you guys share all the time.

Cheers,
Jon

Man, that is the dream, getting paid for something you love to do. To many folks settle for just getting paid, and never get to doing the things they love. There's nothing to feel guilty about, when you can combine the two!

I love the idea of the LED inside the ping-pong ball. That leaves open the possibility of more than one color so that the light can change depending on the activity of the puppet. I hope you find the link, I'd love to learn more about wiring LEDs like that.

Oh, yeah, love the puppet!
