Subscription site Posted by Na on Sep 01, 2008
I was wondering what people would think of this:

After our discussion on people wanting free info on suppliers, etc., I was thinking of changing my 'Learn' page of my website to a subscription-based page. All of the info currently there (for the most part) will still be there for free, as a teaser. If people want to continue reading, or have access to more patterns, instructions, and so forth, then they have to pay a small amount.

I was thinking less than $20 per person, and they would get a lifetime access to ALL of the content. Perhaps $10 is a better price.

I believe I can do something like this using my current site software.

... Frankly, I'm kind of tired of adding free info and not getting much in return. Initially it was all about getting Google to notice my site (which it now does; if you type something to do with puppetry into Google, I'm usually in the first two pages of results) so that I can increase publicity to the online store. However, I'm now realising that perhaps I give too much away for free....

What do you guys think?

Love rhyming.

It occurred to me only a few moments ago that perhaps this is where I could maximise making money. There are so few online puppetry businesses that straight out provide information.

What I could do is have the very basic stuff for free, and then have patterns, diagrams, instructional posts available for a fee. So instead of selling single patterns in my online shop, I could post them on my site, but you'd have to pay to access them: however, you'd pay once, and have access to everything, not just getting one pattern at a time. Since patterns are much cheaper to make and sell, it might not be such a bad idea.
