The newest 14 oz. Antron Posted by puppetlady on Sep 07, 2008
I called Georgia Stage to order more fleece and Brandy told me that they had a complaint about the new 14 oz.  The complaint was that the fleece did not dye well and balled up after being dyed.  I'm wondering if any of you have used the new 14 oz. yet and had this problem or not.  The 12 oz. has run out and will be available in October, so I'm on the fence about whether to wait or buy the questionable 14 oz.  Pasha Romanowski suggested the 14oz. for one of my projects so I'd like to buy 14 oz. if it dyes well.

I'm wondering if this person put the antron in to hot of a dye bath. Did you ask  Brandy if the 14 oz. was from the old stock of antron or the newer version of antron. I was told by a friend that the new stuff was only available in 12 0z. I guess I'll have to research this. Perhaps Brandy or Kathy from Georgia Stage can clear this up for us. Was this just one isolated complaint or have there been many. Have them send a sample piece for you to try before you order.

It sounds like they are saying that they are getting many complaints about the new material.  Puppetlady said it was from Brandy herself who said that they are having problems with the Antron Fleece.  It could be the role as well sometimes roles don't turn out right and because they are done in batches.....so let's hope it is an off batch....I hope Georgia stage will not put up with the lack of professional material and send it back to the company and say "try again."  We shouldn't pay this amount of money for a low end material that won't work professionally.  I would not tolerate it myself.

You may be right Daryl............. the Antron is produced by Hamshire textiles and comes in 50 yard bolts. This could have been a bad bolt. I'll call Brandy or Kathy Monday and talk with them.

14 ounce will be fine but don't let it go inte a spin cycle in the washer thats what balls it up not sure about the color its the same as the 12 just let it sit longer if it seems its not aborbing the color right.

Brandy said it was the new stuff.  If you call them, will you let us know what they say?  That would be great!

I talked with Contact Name Removed of Georgia stage, she will keep me informed on any updates or problems with the new antron fleece. As of today they are out of 12 oz fleece but should have it by the first of October. As for the customer complaints they have only been one or two. I suspect as Jay mentioned that they put the fabric thru a complete wash cycle and this made it pill. Since these are isolated cases it is possible they were human errors. Contact Name Removed said they refer all there customers here for questions about specific problems.
While I had her on the line I got some updated information on pricing and a new product they have available. There is no problem with the new Antron................... It is slightly different than the old version so therefore precautions should be taken when dyeing any synthetic fabric.
Contact Name Removed can only go on feedback that she recieves from there customers but they do not work with the fabric personally so therefore she can not directly give a you a reason why your Antron did not dye right. That is why they direct folks here to Puppets and Stuff to ask those that have used it those questions.
So if it is your first time using Antron please do some research on dyeing the product. Cut a small swatch from your yardage or bolt and do a sample test before dyeing it all.

Here are the prices:

12 oz. Antron fleece (white) .........$15.95 yard
14 oz. Antron Fleece (white) .........$17.99 yard

They now have the 12 oz. Antron already dyed in the (Flesh) color and it is priced $17.99 yard. They are looking into adding some new colors in the future. Georgia stage is not dyeing the fabric but Hamshire textile is and they will be adding colors but not sure what colors or when. I would think they would want to see how well the flesh color sales before they venture in to new territory. Contact Name Removed is sending me a sample piece of the flesh and I will post back here on how it looks.
