Halloween Costumes Posted by Nikole H. on Sep 07, 2008
Halloween is quickly coming upon us and I was wondering if anyone is creating costumes this year.  I am sad that we will probably be moving during this time.  Halloween has always been a favorite of mine because you get to dress up.  It's like everyone participating in theater at the same time.

I was looking at custom requests on Etsy and found a lot of requests for children's costumes.  One in particular made me laugh it was too cute.  Someone wanted an Oscar the Grouch costume with him in a trash can (I'm guessing the easiest way to approach this would be to have a hoop skirt trash can similar to a clown costume).  The cute thing was that they attached an inspiration picture to the request of a child in an existing cookie monster costume.  YOU HAVE TO SEE HOW CUTE THIS IS!!!

Here is the request listing:

I'll post pictures soon of Harrison in his buzz lightyear costume.  I bought it this year since we will be most likely moving during this time.  I was told that people dress up for Halloween now in Singapore.  At least we have some friends living there now that we can knock on their doors.

I keep a dress up closet in my basement.  Come Halloween we rummage about and spontaneously dress up if we want to.  My kids usually don't go trick or treating.  We might have a party with another family instead (with candy of course and costumes for those who wish.)  This year I've added Darth Vader, a unique bride dress and a hideous checkered man's jacket for my husband (an aspiring encyclopedia salesman) more wigs, more hats and more masks and more ethnic clothing this year.  We'll let the kids loose in the basement and see what combination they come up with.  So fun.  I've found that when neighbor kids come over they usually gravitate towards wigs, masks and hats so I usually have a large selection so they have lots to try on.

Count me in on Halloween, I love this time of year and look so forward to seeing people dress up and have a great time.  I was a puppeteer last year.......I made a Mummy puppet and had a t-shirt that said "ipuppeteer" across the front.  I kept it simple but it worked really well.

Post pictures if any wants to when you dress up.....I think I maybe doing the same thing this year but I am planning to make a Frankenstein puppet.

Most of my friends pretend Halloween doesn't exist because they are conservative Christians, but I like to see the kids dressed up too.  No Greater Joy puts out Bible comic books illustrated by a Marvel comic illustrator; I buy a stack and hand them out with plenty of candy.  I figure it can be a high calorie evangelism event.

I never went door to door asking for candy, I was usually with a group of kids going out collecting food for homeless and other people in need.  I do remember that around halloween we (a bunch of people in our church) had costume parties and it was great fun dressing up like someone or something else.  I still like costume parties.
