Hey everyone...
It's been awhile since I posted a new project. I was busy working on a custom puppet for a client. I'm not going into much detail with that right now(they may want to officially debut it themselves). But here's my new project in the works. I just started him today based off a sketch I did about a month ago. He's a Lil Alien creature. Pretty simple in design. I decided at the last minute to try that "moving eye" thing with this one. It seems to have worked out okay, here is a pic showing the sketch, the eyelids in a rested position, and one with lids wide open. I kinda offset the lids a bit to give him a more quizzical look when his lids are down. I'll keep posting more pics as I progress!!!

Photos of the mech...hmmmmm??? well I already covered and glued it with that 1/4" headliner fabric and green fleece. So unfortunately I can't get any pics. The mech is really no different then the tutorial that was featured on here about a month or two ago. I'm just behind on trying it out (since most have already built their blinking eye puppets) So nothing innovating on my end....sorry
Jon, I'm currently dying my lid fabric. So what I was showing in the pics were mainly the wire fleece covered part of the lid mech.The part of eyeball(s) under the lid was Photoshoped green for clarity. (in the middle pic, the top of the pingpong balls)

I like how cleanly you've fabricated the eye lids. They don't look like they have extra fabric in either position.

Hello again!!
I had a very productive day today. I finished up the internal mechanism for the blinking eye. here's a pic looking up into the head of the puppet where the mouth plate would be. I'll try to describe what you're seeing. to the left are the 2 pingpong ball eyes. The lever coming out from between them is the 2 ends of the wire that formed the lids( I duct taped them together). From there is attached a small eye screw, then a small spring to keep the tension on the lids while resting. Then another eye screw that goes into the back of the head(I added a small piece of plastic washer between the screw and foam for rigidity. You can also see above the entire mechanism I added a high-tech paint stir stick cut down to fit inside for added support. This was necessary because when I pull down at the lever eye screw( which I added a cheap keyring attachment as my finger loop, the head wanted to collaps in on itself. So this keeps the cone-head shape. Here are also a few pics with the actual knit eyelid material attached that I dyed yesterday. Hope you can get the idea. Is this the right way to do it?? probably not, but it seems to do the trick. The techniques and materials I used were simply pulled out of my .....
Any advice or tips are surely welcome....
