Differences between fleece? Posted by puppetbubba on Sep 09, 2008
Hi, newbie here.  I have read different posts mentioning fabric to use for your puppet.  I have seen antron fleece, polar fleece and antipill fleece, two way stretch and four way stretch fleece mentioned.  What is the difference?  I know Antron fleece is what the proffesionals use, I don't have a budget for that right now!  What is the difference in the rest of them and which is best to use for a puppet?  Also, is there fuzzier and less fuzzy fleece (different weights).  I see 100% cotton to blends to 100% polyester.  Which is best?  Which is coolest, easiest to work with etc?  Man there is a lot to learn.  I am eager!  I can see this becoming addicting.

Welcome puppetbubba!

The Fleece that we talk about the most is 100% polyester and antipill means that you don't get little fuzz balls on it as the puppet gets used it is better than the regular fleece which get fuzzy.  You don't want the fleece to thick you don't need to keep the puppet warm on cold days. LOL  A thin fleece will do just fine and will keep the puppet a little lighter.

Hope this helps.....

Not all fleeces are created equally.................. You really need to look at the manufacture of the fleece. Northern is not a good brand while Glacier is. Just make sure it is a anti-pill fleece. Polar is a heavier weighted anti-pill fleece and as Daryl said may or may not work well for you. You can usually feel in your hands if it is a good quality. not to thick and not real thin.
Many fleeces are two way stretch fabrics and stretch left to right. While others like knits and stretch terry cloth has a four way stretch meaning it will stretch in all four directions.
Check with the local fabric stores and tell them what you are looking for, most will lead right to the good stuff. Prices average around $7.99 - $15.99 with it often being 30% to 50% off.
