New Puppet Posted by Chris Arveson on Sep 10, 2008
I'm just getting started on the main character for my show, a Pinocchio-type character named Buratino. I have a couple story books with the story. Here is one illustration from one of the books.
I couldn't be more grateful to Nice Braga for releasing her pattern when she did. I think that it works well with the illustration's concept. Here are two shots of the prototype head.
I will likely use a very different eye. I just wanted to have something on the head to give me a feel for how it was working out. The nose is just pinned on. Again, I am just trying to get a look at the whole concept, to see if I like where it is going.
Based on Angel's and PuppetLady's experience in trying to cover the head with fleece, I think I want to either dye or paint the foam. I've never done that before which is cool, I can learn something new. BTW, PuppetLady, your Mary Jane is absolutely wonderful!
Whatcha think?

That is one long nose.....I agree that it is a great pattern for this type of puppet. Isn't timing amazing sometimes? LOL

Great puppet...I agree, that pattern works very well for this design...
Painting foam isn't as hard as it may seem. I painted the foam head of my character Fang using those floral spray paints. You can get them at your local craft stores, they work quite well(at least for me anyway). It's a nice alternative to fleece covering.

Woow looks great and I definitely agree with the pattern working excellently with this character!
The only thing i worry about is poking another puppet's eye out during the show!! XD
[Actually I worry about storage of the puppet, that nose makes it tough]
But its coming along really well! Post more pictures when you get a chance =D
