can't wait to see the completed puppet!!

Fantastic head shape (and nose)!  I used Design Master spray paint on Mary Jane initially.  I didn't care for the looks of it (both colour and texture) so I covered her with fleece afterwards.  (BTW Thanks for the compliment!)
Next time I'm going to try dyeing the foam itself (either reticulated or light colored polyfoam)
You did a great job on the head!  You succeeded in getting the original shape better than I did.  Thanks for including the side view photo.  This is helpful for me.

It seems to me that with a sweet character like Mary Jane, the softness of fleece was probably needed in order to fully capture her personality. Buratino is a carved wooden puppet who comes alive, so I can have some rougher edges and surfaces, and that might actually enhance the character.

I was planning on using Design Master paint, but the nearest store that might carry it is 50 miles away, so that's one of those things that you save up until there is more than one reason to go. But NEXT Friday, I'll be in the neighborhood! Good thing Monday is payday!!!

One thing to think about when you are using master replica's paint on green foam you may end up with a slightly different colour or have difficulty to cover it up.  I only known people who have used it on yellowish (general) foam.  Just something to think about when using this paint and this colour of foam.....but it might be alright to use on green foam.

Thanks for the warning, you are probably quite right. I had this green foam in the garage, so I thought I would use it to knock out a prototype. That means I get to do all manner of nasty things to it, and not have to worry. I figure I can always test the paint on a piece of the yellowish foam for color before I commit the paint to what I hope will be the final head.

Chris:
Before you make a run to get that paint, you might want to call and ask what colours they have in stock and then check on the internet to see if one of those colours is suitable for your project.  There are a lot of colours available but most stores only carry a handful.

Here's a link to the available colors for reference.

I haven't bought any design master spray paint in a while. I checked with some of my online sources and didn't realize the price increase in this product. I use to get it for $6.99 a can................ now the prices range from $10.50- $20.00.
I did contact the design master company, but there minimum buying limit exceeds my budget.
