Project puppet Alternate Body Posted by puppetfreak on Sep 23, 2008
Hey everyone  Sorry i haven't been on for a while I miss you all! So first up for my ameture questions What is the difference of the pattern? http://www.projectpuppet.com/-strse-19/Simple-Series-Alternate-Body/Detail.bok
Re: Project puppet Alternate Body Posted by puppetbubba on Sep 23, 2008
I have the original body.  It has no form to it, basically it is limp and the clothes fall off, I will have to sew them on.  Basically it is a rectangular shape that is skinnier at the top, larger at the bottom with gradual increase.  This new body looks like it has foam plus is rounded.  It is supposed to fit Build-a-Bear clothing well.  The current body doesn't, there is no substance to hold it up.  If you have the money I would try it.  I want to get it eventually.

The alternate body allows more body shape to the original simple series patterns. As I said in a previous post projectpuppet.com tries to upgrade patterns as customers request them.............. so that is the reason for pattern add ons. Basically it make your simple series puppets able to wear clothes. Project puppet has a tutorial on sewing clothes and arms on to the simple series patterns.

Cause I was wondering if it was any better and if it's really worth it.

I am wondering the same thing!

All Project Puppets patterns are well worth the money and if you can afford to invest in them. They are designed as a alternative for those than do not want to explore the possibilties of puppet building.
Come on guys think................ Puppet bodys are just shapes made of round cylinders, squares, shapes cut out like bowling pins and glued together. Use your imagination........... there has been several body designs posted within this forum. I am by know way suggesting that you not buy the body pattern, but Project Puppet urges folks to experiment and add these patterns as tools to help one express there creativity.
I think you can figure out how to do this your self.

LOL!  I have been trying to figure out in my head how to do it and it's not working.  My plan today is to sit down with some paper and try to figure out body shape.  I am a more hands on kind of gal.  Things don't usually work in my head, but hopefully with some paper and patience I can figure it out.  I guess you'll see if it worked when I post my next puppet!  Bowling ball.......never thought of that shape but it totally resembles the puppet shape.....something to work with....thanks!

Take a child's tee shirt and remove the sleeves.  Cut it apart or remove the seams at the shoulder and sides.  You now have a pattern for your foam puppet body.

Thats a good Idea Shawn.

PuppetBubba.............. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh that was not my intentions. If you have ever explored the foam book you will see how they take basic shapes and by joining them together and gluing it makes different shapes like round, barrel shape, etc. I was just suggesting you try different shapes to get the look you want. As Shawn has suggested using a shirt you can just cut a rectangle out of foam and glue together making a body shape. here is the link to the foam book.

Thanks for the idea Shawn, never thought of that.  I'll go salvage one of the t-shirts out of the hand-me-down bag of old kids clothes I have at the back door!

Billy D.....nope, not taken harshly...just the nudge I needed!  I worked all morning and came up with something I am pretty happy with.  Just waiting for the contact cement to do its thing so I can glue it together and complete the main puppet construction.  It'll be a few days but once I have it all together I'll post what I figured out!  Thanks for the nudge.
