Vintage Puppet Videos Posted by brazilnut72 on Sep 29, 2008
I have been re-reading one of the books that was a major influence on me when I was just getting started--Bil Baird's "The Art of the Puppet". In it, he mentions an early TV program called Kukla, Fran, and Ollie. On a whim I did a little YouTube search, and came up with this:

It reminds me of a clip I saw of a piano duet between Rowlf and Fozzie.
Speaking of Baird, here is one of two clips I found on YouTube of his puppets:

I was disappointed that there was not more there. I did find a VHS of his "Davy Jones' Locker" on Amazon, which I am planning to purchase as soon as budget will allow.

In the late 1960s into the 70s CBS ran a show, The Children's Film Festival, featuring foreign films for kids. Kukla, Fran and Ollie introduced the weekly film and appeared during the commercial breaks. I loved them! Ollie had a great voice and such a goofy looking character. I was eleven when it started, and was the cap of a Sunday afternoon. Church in the morning, Rocky and Bullwinkle when we got home, then Children's Film Festival.

TV really hasn't gotten any better, IMHO.

Here's another one of my early puppet memories, Rowlf with Jimmy Dean.

The first time I saw Rowlf on "The Muppet Show" I immediately went back in time to evenings when my grandparents took us with them to their close friends' home to play pinochle. Their friends always had Jimmy Dean on, which I tended to ignore in favor of whatever book I brought with me, until Rowlf came out, and then I was glued to the tube.

Love that Dawg!
