I never have but I have thoughts to the way I might make it but I think you need to talk to our resident bug expert Jon. His bugs look more realistic..................... mine would look more like ABC worm in a childrens book.

My idea was just a regular puppet head............ instead of adding a neck tube then the body just add a long neck tube. Using nylon thread to tye off the sections making up the the worms body. I would of course taper the end tip a point.

What kind of worm do you want?  An earth worm, a book worm?
Re: worm help Posted by jovack on Sep 29, 2008
its got to be a earth worm
Re: worm help Posted by Jon on Sep 29, 2008
Earthworm   I'll have to give this some thought.

What will you be doing with the earthworm?  Will it talk?  Does it need to be able to see?

In nature earthworms don't have eyes or mouths but if you need you puppet to have them you can give them to the puppet.  It all depends on what you need your puppet to be able to do.

How about a carved piece of foam into a worm shape....two rods at each end and a little mouth that opens with a piece of string that runs down the front rod to work the mouth.....something like the Sesame Street worm with Oscar.

I can give you more details if this is something that fits your fancy.

it needs to talk but im not sure about it seeing in fact no eyes its got to move in a spooky way as its the worm that eats bodies its almost the worm grim reaper

worm grim reaper

Oh my!

Let me think about this more.....what size are you looking for?  Is this for film or stage?  What does it need to do?  eg eat human puppets or miniature puppets.

This may help narrow options by knowing answers to these questions.

ok if you go to the Puppet Scripts page ive just up loaded the story its a old British folk story its called Samuel's ghost.

its going to for film its got to be about 4 foot in length it needs to talk and slither of a rock.  lol not needing to eat people lol  but what im thinking is to use the puppet down low have 2 rods for it one for the head and one for half the body leafing the back of the body to drag along the ground. one of the rods will have a mouth movement made in to it. so the whole thing will move by the two rods included the mouth.

what do you all think???  can this be done??

i got all day to play around to day so i will post and let you all know how i got on later

by the way your input is important to me and i thank all of you for your help

If the worm is to be filmed on a screen and then included in a animation (it is for your project, as the marionette isn't it?) maybe a muppet head to be manipulated with your hand and a rod for the middle of the body would work fine.
