For the size of this guy, I think pingpong balls are too small. I'll try to find something a little larger. I'm thiinking I might like to stick with full round eyes. I'll look into the foam raquet balls and ballastic balls. I might just stop at Michaels to see what they have.

Thanks all, I'll keep you posted.

What about using a Javex bottle cut out any shape eyes and use black glass eyes that they use on teddy bears they are very effective for large eyes.

Daryl, what is a Javex bottle, and I'm not sure I get what you mean about cut out any shape. I'm more of a visual person so a little help please.

Try Walmart for the foam balls (sporting goods and toys), Michael's will only carry styrofoam.

I use the foam golf balls all the time, but haven't seen anything larger. Has anyone used the clear plastic ornaments from Michaels for eyes?

I think Toon Asylum has.  That is what the link he posted contains.  I didn't know Michaels carried those.  That might be just what you need.

Javex is a kind of liquid bleach.  Their bottles are plastic and white in color.

Nerf makes some small foam balls that you can buy in the toy section in packs of five.  If you cut these in half you have five pair of eyes.  They are a pit, perhaps 3/8 of an inch, bigger than a ping pong ball.

For larger foam balls you should try Toys R Us in the sports/balls department.  I saw a package of two large foam balls and 3 medium size balls (about 1/2 inch larger than ping pong balls).  It was priced for 6.99 CAN.

Just a thought.....

I finally decided what to do for eyes on Virgil.

Nice eyes!
How did you attach his arms?...there are so many options.  I like Jay's tutorial on that, but is all that necessary for every puppet?
Until now, I always just sewed them into the seam, or handstitched them onto the outside.
Great puppet!

Nice. What did you end up using for those eyes?
By the way, how did you keep the puppets mouth closed in the recent photo?  Did you clip his mouth shut?
I like his head and shoulder shape.  What pattern did you use?
