I Need Some Help Making A Puppet Posted by LittleLovables on Oct 04, 2008
I have been asked to make the mna mna puppet and his pink puppet singers of Muppet fame:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?ndsp=18&um=1&hl=en&q=mnamna%20muppet&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=iv#
I am not that experianced of a puppet builder, and would love any advice on how to pattern the mouth of the pink one, or the eyes of the mna mna one (since they both move and are constructed the same). Any and all tips would be helpful!!
Also, I am wondering if it is even okay to mimic these puppets for a one time thing? Now, I just need to figure out where to get the foam, any ideas?
Thanks! I will have to venture more into the forums for this I think.

I'm sure some of the more experienced builders could answer your questions, but as far as the foam....I would use reticulated foam. You can purchase from this company for $40 including shipping for an entire sheet (54" x 118"). Or around there anyways:

Simply click on outdoor foam, and then choose the EZ-Dry one. I usually use 1/2", but that's your choice.
As far as the building, I guess I would probably try for a rounded "snout", which would have some kind of finger & thumb pockets, that you could just pull together, when moving it's mouth.
The eyes, I'm not too sure about...sorry.
Hope that helps a little bit anyways, until someone else answers.

Thanks so much, that really helps out a lot. I think I will maybe a build a little protoype with some cheapie foam first, so I appreciate that link! What kind of glue would you suggest for the EZ-Dry foam?

It is not really ethical to reproduce these characters. The characters themselves are copyrighted by the Muppets so if someone used them in a show they could get in trouble. There are builders that make look alikes of the Muppets but they never call them by the actual name of the original Muppet character.

Thanks Shawn for that. These puppets aren't for any type of show, but for a little boy who loves the characters.
