Unsuccessful Fur Hunting Posted by Chris Arveson on Oct 07, 2008
HELP! I am trying to build a fox puppet. I have a great pattern ready to go, exactly what I want to make. The problem? I can't find a medium brown, medium length fur. I haven't found one in either the physical or virtual world. Anyone have a great fake fur source that might be able to help?
Thanks!
Chris
Thanks!

You may try here. If they don't have what you want I know of others.

LOL ..... I was looking at the site and my first thought was damn these guys have the exact same stuff as a store in the city. Come to find out that's the store =D Yeah those guys have everything you could want. I went in there and went through all kinds of emotions. First I was excited and felt like a kid in a candy store. Then it changed to depression when I realized all the fur I wanted was like fifty bucks a yard. I walked out happy though. =)

Oh I forgot to mention i'm heading into the city on Thursday. Chris if you can't find what your looking for I could take a look for you. They have so much that it may be confusing to find the exact thing your looking for. I figure I could take a few shots with my phone on a couple kinds they have.

Billy, thanks for the link. I had looked at their site before, and didn't see anything suitable. I looked again thanks to your posting, and found a possibility or two. I had to decide more on the description than on the pictures. I'm partly color-blind, which doesn't help much. I shall have to trust the description, and even though it will cost a bit more than I wanted to spend, oh well! Now I can start dreaming up other projects to use the extra fur with.
Gav, thanks for your offer! Oh, to live near a city that has such resources . . .
I have Joann's fabric and a couple Walmart's about 30 miles away that still have a few fabrics. My wife goes to a doctor near Asheville, NC every 6 weeks, and there is a nice foam and fabric outlet there. When they have what I need, there are real bargains!

I just saw a few at our local fabric shop that would be good for that, but we are a bit far away (Canada). Glad you were able to find something that will work. Looking forward to seeing your creation.

Hey Chris,
I suppose it's not current already and I'm not sure if you would like to try to buy something in Poland anyway, but I know one shop that sells a fur you probably would be interested in (I've bought a fur from them). I've got their samples (I needed them for my puppet and they send me some of the fox ones as well) and there is something like that (check it out):
http://anza.info.pl/oferta.php/prod/33
The site is ONLY in polish language, but on the right side you can see the colors of the fox fake fur they have in stock, so it shouldn't be any problem for you.
I took some photos of samples I received from them and there is something MORE than shown on the site:
The colors on the photos are NOT exactly the same as they are in reality (they have nice medium-brown tone), but I've got quite bad light right now to mirror them correctly... (I can take the pictures tomorrow in a daylight if you would like me to).
If you are still searching for that, just let me know, I can help you to get it.
Cheers,
Iza

Np Chris... I hate buying fur online. You really want to see it and feel it.

I agree that is why I have samples from diiferent factorys and suppliers. They are those that do not have the option to buy local or feel the product. Outside of EBay...... which in most cases does not offer samples.
Most places will be glad to send you samples before you buy. Some offer them free while others charge a small fee for S/H. So if you are in doubt ask for a sample !
