problems to get material Posted by Redchilli on Oct 29, 2008
Hello,
this is Redchilli. I´m from Germany and I´m so glad I found this page. In GER there´s no support to making puppets or anything else. This is my biggest problem...I made a puppet like this one explained in expertvillage...I think it turn really right, I´m very proud of it ;O)My daughter loves it, too.
Now I want to make a lion puppet or a badger puppet and I found out a store which sells foam...yeah..so far so good, but where can I buy some fabrics which looks like fur...no chance in GER...
the Patterns from Projectpuppet are great, but I don´t know if I want to spent that much money in a pattern and as I heard its only for the foam, covering pattern is an extra one, right?

So, who can help me getting eyes for my puppet and fur...
I´m sorry for my English...

Redchilli,

Do you have fabric stores in Germany?  It has been a very long time since I lived there but thought they did.  In America and even many European countries fabric stores sell "fake/faux fur".  That is what you want to look for.  Teddy bears are made from it.  I tried searching on the web for links but could not find any so maybe you can't get fake fur in Germany.

Perhaps someone here can get you some and send it to you.  If some one in Europe could do it for you it might cost less on shipping.

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff....................... we realize some puppet supplies are not available in other countries. I am trying to help in this area however I do not carry fur at the moment. I agree with Shawn if a neighboring country could ship it to you it would be cheaper but if you order via USA it will cost more

I did check out Mendels and they do ship internationally from the USA

You may want to try Ebay Germany

Hi!
Im in Iceland, and fake fur or antron fleece is hard to find. I have found fake fur in ugly colours.
The orange monster on my pictures is made from pillow from IKEA

Stonemask brings up a good idea, you might be able to find fake fur in a product you can buy like a stuffed animal. It may not be the best way to do it but is an idea.

Hi Redchilli,

Here in Poland [hah! I'm finally at home (was in England for over a year)] we have one of the wholesalers selling faux fur (I bought it from them) and as we're neighbours you may be interested in dealing with, because a postage for shipping from my country to Germany shouldn't be very high.
You can check this site:

http://anza.info.pl/oferta.php

It's in polish, but you can check what they have in stock.
They can send you examples of a fake fur to Germany if you would like them to (they sent me swatches even to England).
I can translate any information included on the site for you if you would be interested in.

Cheers,
Iza

As for the foam, you have already found it, but for the future - if you live next to the northern border with Poland, there is a DEKA wholesaler on the route from Lubieszyn. They have polyfoam in a wide variety of density.
I was there today and bought some.

  You are great....
Of course in Germany we have fabric stores...I´ve just been in one of them today and  I got a furlike Fabric...I will look how far it works...fleece is no problem ...

I have to look for these nice puppet eyes out of acrylic...
There are many stores in Germany but as you propably know Germany has been divided and the nice stores are in the " West"  although we are reunited for many years...

Thanks for you offers...I will look at these pages and search for material...

these teddybear fabrics which you mentioned I already know but I don´t like them very much...
I made a teddy bear and I used a cheaper fabric, because not so many people are making teddies due to this fact fake fur is expensive...

How much is fake fur in USA or Poland..or whereever you live in Germany its about 23-40 euro / meter...
Nice Greetings from Dresden ( if you Know this  )
