Hi all,
I have a stumper for any puppet scholars.

My early childhood was during the 70s but I lived in another country that picked up US broadcasts in the morning in leiu of original content.

So, Hot Fudge, speed racer, starblazers, etc.

Ok, so I have a memory of a puppet show with at least two puppets. I can't remember a whole lot about the show other than these two puppets. But I remember them well. I have been trying to find the name of the show (or segment) in which these puppets appeared for years and have had NO luck.  And now the memories have begun to fade so I've gotten desperate. Here's what I recall:

The first puppet was a boy. I believe he was green-skinned and I know that he had green or brown hair. His name was either Arthur or Andy and I believe he was the main character of the show. I beleive he wore a v-neck sweater with a white turtleneck.

The other puppet was also a boy. He was definitely named George and he was a supporting character. He definitely had powder blue skin and a shock of blond spikey hair. He had aa permanent frown and always was a grouch about everything.

I'm sure there were other supporting puppets but I cannot recall any of them.

I know it isn't much to go on but this had to be a children's show from the 70s, so I figure the number of US Children's shows with puppets has to be a finite number.

I've scoured nostalgia sites and various and have come up empty. I tried asking a guy with a puppet blog but he never answered my email.

Please help me. Or please can you connect me with someone who is steeped in puppet history?

Interesting question.  I also grew up in the 70's but nothing you mention sounds familiar.  My guess is it must have been a local or regional show that was picked up by the program manager of the station you watched.  Maybe someone else here knows something about it.

Thanks Jon. Yes, I've despaired of actually ever learning the name of the show or finding old clips of it online.  The internet has spoiled all of us with accessibility to data about vague pop culture memories and I suppose this will just be the one that got away. Or stayed intact in its time-capsule.

I'm a 70's gal.  I don't remember that one either.  Surely someone does.  It wasn't Alphabet Soup, was it?

Hi puppetlady, I'm not familiar with a show called Alphabet Soup, so maybe ... could you tell me some details or point me to a page about it?

I was inspired to sketch a world-class rendition of the characters. Please don't be overawed by my awesome artisitic ability.

I don't know about the unhappy one, but the other fellow looks a great deal like Gerbert.

Hi Chris, thanks for the suggest. I'm pretty sure of the coloration and didn't recognize the clip but knowing how memory can play tricks, I did some further research on the off-chance. Gerbert came out in 1988, so it's past my window of childhood. 

It gives me an opportunity to make a note about the production style of the show I'm recalling though. It's possible that these puppets a segment of another show and if so that perhaps a live person would spoke about whatever the message of the segment was before the segment.

Gawd that sounds horribly vague but it's what I'm working with; I wasn't kind to my brain cells in high school and college and this is the big payback I guess.

Also:

I recall a show with a man who would have a chicken drop in with a mystery word and who had an audience of kids who you could see. I think maybe his name was captain something (no, not captain kangaroo)? Maybe this is connected to that? I don't think so (I think they showed animated segments on that show) but I mention it because at this point what the hey.
