Why do people think there should be free puppet patterns here?  All of us had to get  patterns somewhere - either pay for them or spend hours creating our own.
Just wondering!

Well folks are not always wanting free patterns but just looking for patterns in general.   I think it is nice to have a combination of both.  Most of the free patterns are pretty basic, but for someone willing to put in the time and effort can be a good starting point.  The ones for sell tend be be much more detailed and would most likely give better end results for those just beginning.

MsPuppet, well when I first started to get interrested in making puppets, the few free patterns I found on the internet were a great way for me to start. They were pretty simple and they gave me good ideas about what to do and not do. In a way, they are a good way to start without spending too much money. But after a while, I wanted to go further and have better looking puppets. And thanks to those old free simple patterns, I was able to know more about what to do and where to go. But that is my experience. May be something different for others.

I remember when I first started I researched everything and every where I could find any info. My money was limited and due to my ignorance to puppet patterns I was not sure if the monies charged were worth the investment. Years later and about 40 or more patterns in my collection I look back and appreciate the Blue Boy pattern which was the only freebie at the time.
I reached out to Puppet builders back then for help but there secrets were very coveted and they did not want to share. I met Shawn here at Puppets and Stuff and started asking questions. I have noticed that more Professionals are more free to share building secrets these days.
