Thank you Angel, it means a lot when my work is liked.
So far today I've basically explained how to make her arms, legs, body, head, jointing her arms and legs, and eye positioning.
All of that took 39 steps and I have to take photos while making a new one, phew, this is hard work but very rewarding. I still have to explain how to paint and soft sculpt her face and make her clothing and accessories!  
Oooh... and attach her hair too!

I was actually thinking not to carve here but us your pattern and modify it to have the correct joints for a marionette.  When I was still a wee kid my first book about puppets was called "Marionettes, Easy to make! Fun to use!"  by Edith Flack Ackley.  It had pattens and they where all cloth dolls with joints in them.  It was a great way to learn the basics of how a marionette worked.   Since it was a pattern it easy to follow and end up with something I was proud of.  Ok I admit... I had help from my mom. 

Have you ever used a doll pattern for any of your recent work Shawn?

I really love the look of Bronwyn, if thats her name!! i think im going to have to purchase the patterns once you have finished and put them up on your site for sale. i have been making puppets for soooooooo long, but at the same time have always loved creating other things just for the pure satisfaction of the beautiful end product, and you have come up with just that, a beautiful end product and i shall be proud to have a go at making one and putting my own stamp of uniqueness on it!!!!! plus, i beleive this is something that can help all puppet builders to understand shape and scale for thier puppets, even tho this is just a doll, and i also think that owning this pattern (plus her sisters too of course, when they come into existance) would give us a great little oppertunity to make some fantastic little gifts for people (im thinking birthdays, christmas, possibly giving the appropriate season to someone on thier special day!!)
the bottom line (through all my waffling) is i absolutely love it and i cant wait to see what is next!!!!

Ben, you're very kind, thank you! I can't begin to tell you how encouraging it is to have your work liked. I've always loved making things with fabric and it's so nice when other people like it too.

No I have not.  That is one reason I want to give it try.   Ben mentioned the value of the pattern in learning scale and I agree with him. 18"  is a really good size for both marionette and even rod puppets.

That's odd, I thought Bronwyn was 16" but it turns out she's actually a tad over 18", not including her upswept hair either!

I have a question though, I used something called 'FloraCraft Craft Fur - Item no. CF912' for her hair, it's a really great product with a fabric backing, and allows her hair to stand on end. I have around 12 sheets in the green and an electric blue. I ran a search online for it and can't find it anywhere. Has anyone used it before? It's really quite coarse to touch, what could I recommend as an alternative to future pattern purchasers?
I saw something called 'Darice Long Pile Fur', is that similar in texture? Thanks.

It seems to be a dis-continued vintage product used to make furry flowers. I would think any long pile fur longer than 3" would work. I found this pattern on ebay showing fur flowers.

Ok, thanks Billy, I was wondering why they were selling it off for $1us. a sheet. I bought all they had. So I guess I will recommend craft fur with a 2-3" pile then.
