I think this form of puppetry is so amazing and would like to research more.  I was just wondering if you professionals wouldn't mind explaining to me more on what the puppeteer wears.  I am just baffled by it all.  I'd be interested in incorporating this type of puppetry with my new and small portable theater but I just don't know what the adjustments would be.  I could add two more lights at the top of my theater for black lights that way I can switch from types of shows.  I currently sit behind a scrim that disguises me being there.  I have to do this sort of performance because I have nerve damage in my arms and can't raise them over my head for too long.  This is where I get stumped.  Can I just move the same way with a scrim loosely hanging over my arms?  Or....do I have to dress in black mask and all?  Or....does this type of puppetry only work on a larger scale in a darker theater?  Sorry for so many questions.

I also just had an epiphany!!!  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to make my ring-a-ding-dings also into black light finger puppets.  I would love to see my feathers light up!  I'm guessing I don't have to do anything to the already white eyeballs.  I just need to find the feathers that will work....anyone have any suggestions.  Man, I am full of questions today.

I think most of your black light questions have been discussed in the black light threads.
Read through there and you'll find which color feathers flouress and different ways that folks dress.  I prefer all black.  Anything within the wash of the black light will illuminate - even the lint on your black clothes.  If you don't want to distract from your puppet - you should wear all black.  You don't need a stage at all - it all depends on the lighting, where it falls and area(s) you're illuminating with black light.  If you're behind a scrim - (I think we've discussed this in the threads) - it just depends on where the light is coming from - behind my scrim I do not wear a hood - and I often stand so I can look through to see the audience.  If there is ANY other light - it sometimes will expose me - so I have to wear a hood.  I think the others have posted very good comments on how the eyes work and "trick" themselves when focusing in black light.

I've mentioned paints that work - I've painted feathers before.  Hot Pink and White flouress naturally, some yellows and greens.  I use Boas in lieu of feathers sometimes, too - same effect.  Your eyes might not flouress white (also discussed in the threads) - they will flouress BLUE.  So depending on how "white" you want them, you'll have to paint them a special black light white.

black light is 80% experimentation (IMHO) - so just keep working with it until you get what you like -

Hello to everyone, I'm back!!!  Even this summer, with working and doing a three week summer program at UCONN in puppetry, I have alot going on.  First off, I'm sorry, I didin't realize ppl were still posting in this forum, then I had to actually find it after Billy e-mailed me.  I wasn't even home until July 30th, so that is why I just got back to Billy and the forum thread.  The handouts that I can find are ones on manipulation and ideas for moving them.  However, I tried to make a few tracing my own purchased Stretch-a-belly.  However, that is pretty well covered and mine didn't work out too well.  so is anyone still interested in that handout?  It actually is kinda cool cause it is from the creator of the puppets, but they are also very fun to just kind of play around with.  Let me know, I'm gonna try to stay current here!!
