Since it is a work shop maybe they could also make their own screens. I know at one time we either discussed making workshop screens out of a cardboard box and white tissue paper. Could be I am remembering another life.   A cereal box is a good size and you simply cut out an opening and cover with the white tissue paper. Even if there was not time for all the kids to make on you could perhaps make one of these in class so they could see how it is done and then do it at home.

Hey Spoon! So glad you posted this here! I saw the pics over on FB and commented.  This version of Uno Die looks like maybe he is a bit smaller, or is that just my imagination? Did you make the pirate outfit for him? It looks really sharp on him.

Well as with any puppetry practice helps but you might want to think about setting up a monitor instead of a mirror watch so you can better frame and set focus of the eyes on your puppet.
Re: Markets/stalls Posted in Markets/stalls on Jun 05, 2012
I think in the case of stalls at a market you need to have actual product to sell. It is that impulse buy you are going for especially in the climate of a convention. People are there and hyped up about puppetry.

I think that demonstration of the product can be pretty important but remember this does not have to be a live demonstration. Even a video demo can do the job.

I think you just have to keep at it and keep yourself out there. You can't really rest on your laurels. Use the big guys... FaceBook...etc even the small fry like us here can be advantages but if you don't keep yourself in the for front.. i.e. you don't post then you fade into the background.  Also don't just spam post. This goes for any site. Folks are more likely to check your own stuff out if they have found a connection with you. For example DrPuppet has been around here for some time and posted not only about his own stuff but about other things or joined in on other discussions. I'll always check out something he has created where as a newcomers or person who does not post much stuff I may overlook.

Keep creating fresh new content. Simply recycling the old stuff is not going to cut it.

Check out Just boB http://www.blogtv.com/people/Just_boB  This little guy started out with just a channel on BlogTV. You can now also find him on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter along with countless other social sites. Over time I know he has tried many things like chat Roulett and may even still drop in on it from time to time.

This is a pretty interesting article on Sheri Lewis authored by Matt Weinstock. Not everyone agreed with his take on Sheri Lewis and it got some interesting comments from folks includeing her daughter Mallory Lewis.
Harry Knowles and Carol Spinney Posted in Harry Knowles and Carol Spinney on Jun 03, 2012
I feel a bit like I am stealing Andrews thunder and I try not to do this but this was just too good. Andrew posted this over on YouTube on his Puppet Vision page. https://www.facebook.com/puppetvisionblog It is a segment of Ain't It Cool with Harry where he interviews Carol Spinney.  What is unique about this is that in this case Harry is a puppet.  I had never heard about Harry Knowles and this show before so this may be old news to some.

Thank you Andrew for turning me on to this!

Notice: Towards the end of the video there is some language that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.  It is after the interview with Carol once Harry starts talking about "American Werewolf in London".  I would encourage you to keep watching though because there is some really cool information about John Landis and the Muppets at the end of the show.
Inner and outer circumfrence Posted in Inner and outer circumfrence on Jun 03, 2012
Ok first a bit of the back story for this question. I am working on makeing a mascot head for a friends school. Normally I would just free form this out of foam but I wanted to play with modeling the head out of clay then pulling a pattern off of that using tape.  Here are a couple shots of the clay head and then the foam prototype. The prototype is the pattern I pulled increase by 150% and then made with 1/4 inch foam.  The prototype is perhaps about half the size it needs to be in the end product.

We are planing on using a bicycle helmet on the inside of the final head. the helmet needs to fit inside the head so the performer can look out the mouth of the mascot.  Here is my question or what I am trying to figure out. I can measure the outer circumference of helmet and then the outer circumference of the prototype where I figure the bottom of the helmet should be in order to try and figure out how much more I need to increase the pattern but I am not sure how to take into consideration the 1/4 thickness of the foam.  Are you following me yet?  I really need the inner circumference of the prototype but can't really get inside there to measure accurately.  I am pretty sure that I can't just subtract a 1/4 inch from my measurement or do I? I was always so bad at math.

Perhaps if I state the problem in a different way. If I have an hollow ball that has a 1/4 inch wall and measure the outer circumference how can I find the inner circumference?

BTW: Once I finish this project I want to do another one which I'll detail and do a tutorial on the process of making a clay model you can pattern off of.  There are a couple things about this model that would not really work as a hand puppet but the increase of 150% from my original to prototype is just about right for a hand puppet. Figured it would be a great way to get some shapes and patterns for things that folks are always asking about.

Hey welcome back! So pleased to hear that Becki is doing better.

Frankenstein... how cool is that!  Looks like you are really moving along with the puppets.  Wish it was going to be a video so we could all see it.
