I vote for quality over quantity myself. I assume you want to do this for more then just the short term. With PandS I've never really looked at getting numbers. I just set out to have a site where folks could come and join in on discussing puppets. I mean yes sometimes when I post or reply to something I often will repeat a key word or add it if I don't think the prior post have it so that perhaps the search engines will pick up on it but I don't agonize over it. In fact I would almost say it has become second nature for me to add puppet words into the thread. See I just did it.
Re: Foam puppets Posted in Foam puppets on Oct 16, 2011
Yes I think the Spitting Image puppets where foam. It is possible though that they are pored liquid foam into a mold instead of the patterned foam sheets like you see most people making that look like the Muppets. Spitting Image Productions Limited is located in London. You would need to contact them if you wanted one of their creations. I think this is the current information.

Re: Control rod? Posted in Control rod? on Oct 13, 2011
I would go with the idea you see in the Halloween picture that Abdolos linked to. A simple cross control. Balsa would be fine and I actually like the idea of it being on a bar above the head.   Also elastic is the way to go for the strings. The person has to be able to move freely or else the costume will come off really fast. If you try to add any more strings then just hand and leg you she is going to be tangled in no time and not be able to move around.

Looks pretty fun.  Where did you see this? Was it on video or in a theater?
Re: Professional Marionette Shops Posted in Professional Marionette Shops on Oct 05, 2011
There may be some links scattered around but your right this will get them all in the same place and hopefully will be what people use to search. You found some good ones there.
Re: Check this out if you like seeing Pirates attack Puppets Posted in Check this out if you like seeing Pirates attack Puppets on Oct 03, 2011
That was very cool and crazy! It was also pretty gruesome in a cartoon kind of way. Here is a link to a page that list the puppet builders and puppeteers. I love this description of them "Celtic pirate rock band".

I know there is one university in the US that offers degrees. West Virgina University - Bachelor of Fine Arts – Puppetry/Creative Dramatics.

Whoo Hoo! What fun!  I love the overhead one also.
Re: Virtual conference Posted in Virtual conference on Sep 25, 2011
I think that conference could be really cool. Would take a lot of work and planing by someone though.   I think maybe the timezone thing is ignored because unless there are planners or participants in different timezones it is hard to deal with.

In regards to the site you are looking at setting up with audio and video of some of the greats.  I would vote for free. I am not sure you are going to be able to get folks to pay for the stuff. I could be wrong though.  I think you might do better with a such a site if you offered the info free and relied on paid advertising to foot the bill. I mean think about it. YouTube, Facebook, eHow, ect... that is how they are making the money. Heck even Hulu is free although I did hear they are now offering a paid version with less commercials.
Karagiozis/Karaghiozis Shadow Puppet Posted in Karagiozis/Karaghiozis Shadow Puppet on Sep 23, 2011
Karagiozis or Karaghiozis Shadow Puppet

Tom Lang over at Puppet Hub is looking for some information on this shadow puppetry character so I went searching. See post: http://www.puppethub.com/profiles/blogs/karagiosis-shadow-puppetry

Tom was looking for the Greek character but the Turkish character seems to be tightly connected also. Below is some of the stuff on the internet that I found. If you have any further information on this or if you know of anyone who still preforms these pop on over to Puppet Hub (see link above) and post. If you are not a member you can leave the info here and I would pass it on.
