Re: Why is this hobby so addicting? Posted in Why is this hobby so addicting? on Dec 12, 2015
I feel your pain, it is addictive.  I have stopped and restarted several times and feel the loneliness of not having anyone around who can understand how I feel. For me since I did multiple puppets shows I had to coerce others to help me and was constantly looks for another "helper".  For a short time I found another puppet freak and we enjoyed some perfect collaboration, until she moved away. I had to reinvent how I did puppets according to how my situation and availability of  helpers changed over the years. I envy anyone who can pull off a one man show successfully.  I think that is why I enjoy coming back to Puppets and Stuff so much, you all understand and give much needed moral support to keep us going.  It won't always be easy but I would say be open to changes, there is a reason you are drawn to puppets, hope you find your reason.

I am a Tick fan, dumbest catch phrase ever "SPOON!"  Gotta love him, and those bad guys, they just kill me.  Watch a few old Tick episodes and your brain will be dumbified.
Re: Character design Posted in Character design on Sep 15, 2015
I believe that puppet characters keep changing, maturing, like real people do. You make a change and it goes well, or it does not and you ditch that one.  Sometimes the same bit that worked great for one group falls flat on another.  You adjust and go with what is working.  Eventually you know your character so well you can anticipate how they will react and you think on the fly.  I have been watching my little granddaughter who is two and she is so different than my sons were at this age, we are enjoying her so much.  She is not so rough as the boys were, she cherishes little things like a soft ribbon that my boys would not have given a second look. I can't wait to teach her to sew puppets and create her own characters.

I have never seen glued seams before, but more important, it does not seem to work on this puppet. What a shame I hope they will help you resolve this problem.
Sharpening Scissors Posted in Sharpening Scissors on May 22, 2015
I have a drawer full of dull scissors and cheap sharpening tools.  Can any of you recommend a good way to sharpen scissors.  The fellow who sharpens scissors costs so much, it is cheaper to go buy a new pair sometimes.  If you have had good success with one method I would like to know what you use.
Re: Storing your patterns Posted in Storing your patterns on Apr 27, 2015
Pagestep "Flee the country"  that is a scary thought! Love the Grid idea. Sew Much More sewing classes (best classes ever)had interfacing type fabric to make your custom patterns and they stored them in large envelopes. They pointed out that you could "see through" the product called "Do Sew" I believe.  That is very helpful when matching patterns or stripes in the fabric so the stripes meet at the seams nicely.  I did find that it could stretch if you were too rough with it because it is not woven but pressed together.  I like to write the descriptions at the top edges for filing and I can write other notes down the front too like good legs, bad mouth plate etc. My best patterns are really a mixture of the best parts of several patterns. I wonder if you can get acid free envelopes, my pattern envelopes are so old that they are starting to crumble.  I have seen see through plastic type envelopes, might be expensive and hard to write on but you could use printed label stickers to look nicer.  There are lots of nice filing boxes with handle that fit those large envelopes to transport your collection too.

Whoa, what is that white stuff, we don't see that in our part of Texas.  Come south our fields are covered with lovely bluebonnet flowers and it has been in the 80's. I like the canned laughter you use.

When I was in choir they brought hot tea with honey and lemon to clear out the phlem before a big performance. When I lost my voice I reworked the script so that my puppet could not talk and the others guessed what I was trying to say, not too successfully. We used prerecorded music with lots of voices so we could always sing with out actually singing if we needed to. I think a doctor would be the one to tell you when it might damage your vocal cords.

Or you could move the Just over to right and have puppet sitting on J like a swing too.
